I now work at the public library. It's a wonderful job... save for the patrons (but that goes without saying).
One morning I was putting the current newspapers on the sticks as the library was opening (I'm very slow at it) and while I was finishing up, a bedraggled lady came up to me. She said she was waiting for the newspaper with the crossword puzzle, and I assured her I'd be done in a minute.
SUDDENLY! Out of the clear blue sky and apropos to nothing at all, this woman started telling me this story of how she was a teacher, and gave her student from Mexico a Spanish/English dictionary so he could better learn. I'm thinking,
So?! What do you want, a T-shirt?? Leave me alone!
This woman probably had a screw loose (we get tons of those at the library), but it was still annoying. She probably saw The Blind Side and felt like making up some parable that paints her as some kind of secular saint You know, it's bad enough when haughty rich people do that sort of thing, but when crazy, homeless people are doing it?
