I had a guy who came through my line and had a payroll check for over three thousand dollars. Yeah that alone makes him suck cuz it was a bonus check--I wish I had that. But anyway, he told me:

SC: I haven't been in since (insert a few months ago date) and I was very upset because you guys wouldn't cash my check that last time. It was a surprise for my wife and you ruined her b-day! Now, I expect it to be cashed this time!

Me: ...Well, I'll be right back.

Ruined her Bday my ass! Fail on your part for not going to the bank first! Furthermore, the check is from a different state and last time I checked we are NOT a bank!!! We have to verify the bank info and do a bunch of crap that takes awhile and for that amount, the cage manager has to be notified.

I go into the back and nobody has a clue what he is talking about we even called the cage manager who said NO.

So I begged my superivisor to tell him because why should I get yelled at??

SC: I am the husband of (insert wife's name who we actually like but doesn't make a difference WHO she is). We've been coming here for 20 years (we haven't been open that long!) and I am very upset by this! If you guys would have done your jobs this wouldn't have been an issue!
Do you know who (name drop) is?

    SV: No...

SC: Well she is the assistant VP to this casino and MY neighbor, she will hear about this!

    Us:

SC: It's not like I would give you a fake check! Its not like anybody can just sign it..

Wow, just wow. Yes, sir, they can and you're an asshole.

SC: (blank) casino cashed it for me! I don't understand why YOU won't!

SV: Well, sir, we have to verify the bank and they must be on a different system...

I'm wondering why the HELL he didn't go back there if they did it. I doubt they did.

SC: Well, **** this place, I'm never coming back!

    He left in a huff.

Funny thing is, his wife came up a half an hour later, we like her and she is a high roller. She got cash off her credit card and said what a lovely time she was having. And the hubbie can't bitch to her about it because it was a suprise for her. So, he gets to be at a place he is mad at and has to watch his wife have fun. HAHAHA.

Now, whats funnier, is the fact that the wife actually owes us almost ten thousand dollars but they.... WROTE IT OFF. She's actually a problem gambler!!!

Also, if we know you're not going to play the money we've cashed for you, we're NOT going to bend over backwards to give it to you!

Just the way he complained annoyed me and he was VERY condesending. He had to flash what he did for a living and tried to make me feel like I did nothing and I was so beneath him. He can suck it.

Let me get this straight....you work in a casino, correct?

Why are people bringing their paychecks to your casino? In so much of a hurry to gamble it all away that they forgot to go to the bank? Or, I don't know, get direct deposit like most people do? If he has such a prestigious job that he can get $300 bonus checks, he has to be able to get direct deposit.

When we lived in Vegas, the man used to cash his paycheck at casinos all the time. We weren't able to have a bank account at the time, and the casinos didn't charge a fee unlike check cashing stores. They want you to gamble there, so why not make it easy and cash the checks (though we never gambled)?

Why would the casino write off ten grand? That's a helluva lotta money. Especially if she keeps coming in, shouldn't they be able to get it back?

When the husband's bonus is over 3k, I would suspect that the gambling addict wife spends/loses waaaay more than 10k per visit.

The highest amount I have ever seen as a write off is 75,000. No joke. We do cash payroll checks but they have to be verified and the company has to make an account with us and sometimes we will do it if the customer has really good play.

We have tons of people with write offs that keep gambling with us but they never make them pay but I bet it messes up their credit real bad.

We get a LOT of people trying to cash fake checks. So we have to be extra careful too.

I have direct deposit now, but when I didn't or if I have my tax refund check, I'd usually take them to a casino to cash.

Depending on the time of day or the amount of the check, it may be a few days before the funds are available at the bank. Cashing at the casino puts money in my pocket.

Some casinos will give free drink tickets or other comps to try and get you to stay at the casino longer in the hopes that you'll gamble some (or all) of it.

For the SC in the OP, he might've been holding onto the check to cash it there to spend that night. Who knows? What's really sucky about him is he should know what they need to do and what steps need to be taken when a check is cashed, especially if it's an out of state check.
