      I'm not going to go through a store with a fine-toothed comb just to get something they may or may not have; and I think it's unreasonable to expect me to.

      I'll look in the likely spots myself, and if I don't find it, I'll find someone who can be expected to know, and ask politely. The item I'm looking for may well be right near me, because I'll probably be in a likely spot when I ask.

      But I will have tried.
