In the past I've tended to sell mine on-campus. We don't do buybacks (I think the concept isn't overly popular in Australia-it's normally for games or novels), so usually there are signs plastered all over the place for textbooks and such.
General rule is that with most books barring language texts, you can get away with an older edition unless there's a major change in the book-political science texts for instance are constantly updated.
