I work for a library in an American university's satellite campus in France.
A student asks me to put more paper in the printer...weird, because I had just refilled the printer not too long ago. Usually when this happens, the student is trying to print a document that is formatted on U.S. letter-size paper, whereas our European printer has A4 paper. The error message (in French) is saying it doesn't have that specific size of paper -- not that it doesn't have any paper at all.
I start explaining this to him, as well as how to change the paper size on his document...and he just gets off his computer and moves to a computer across the room! I'm befuddled...I go up to him, and tell him I'm trying to help him print his document. He responds without even looking at me, just staring at the computer screen:
Student: Mmmm.
Me: Do you not need any help?
Student: Mmmm.
Me: Alright then.
And I go back to my desk. Sucky? Or just plain weird? I don't even know.
