Sadly, there will be no super-tastic update, car disappeared over my day off, meaning the owner came in and paid for it, and nobody seems to remember what he looked like, so that means he quietly paid without a fuss.

Maybe the shock of the experience kick-started his only brain cell back into functionality? We can only hope.

But, He's nowhere near the current record holder for tows-for-tickets

That gentleman his been towed eight times for excessive tickets, meaning he's been ticketed 36 times, and just flat out won't pay the meters

He's never angry, upset or contrary, just picks up his car, pays for his tow and 4 tickets, and goes right back to the meters and starts it all over again. My only explaination is that he sees it as a trade off to pay $165 every couple of weeks instead of feeding the meter whenever he uses it. But, given that a quarter gets you 30 minues on the meter, and they can holdup to 8 hours of time, I don't see how that "economics" argument would make sense.

His next-nearest competitor only has been towed TWICE for tickets, after that, he moved out of the lot and into the street, where the cops began ticketing him because you can't park along that particular street. Apparently, he wasn't familiar with how the cops handle thier tickets, when he got 4 of them and didn't pay any of them, they BOOTED him.

For those of you playing at home, the boot cannot be removed from a car in this town unless a signed letter from a Judge can be presented to the police showing that yes, you have paid all your delinquent fines.

I still don't quite get the logic behind the boot... sure, it's *easier* than towing, but if the purpose of parking fines is to stop cars from being where they are not supposed to be, surely forcing it to stay there in the way is counterproductive?

They don't just sit there forever. Booted cars eventually get towed if the outstanding tickets aren't paid for. Or at least, that's what I learned from watching "Parking Wars."

I've spent many hours watching Parking Wars on A&E.com. The repo show I've seen recently drives me nuts - the repo people seem to do more yelling than the people they're repoing.

Yeah, the one on TRU-TV tends to attract a lot of drama. The Nat. Geo. one is lower key. But NG is East Coast and The TRU one is West coast, so there y GO.

Long story, most of which I don't remember, but our local paper once quoted a woman who was firmly convinced that because she didn't have a driver's license, traffic laws did not apply to her. If she got a ticket for speeding, she wouldn't be legally compelled to pay it, she reasoned, because she had not "entered into a contract" with the state by getting a license.

My point is that people can be amazingly stupid.

The actual purpose of booting is to hold a car until it's fines are paid when it's become clear that the owner is just going to crumple them up and throw them in the gutter instead of paying them.

But the reason for the *fines* is to stop the car from being where it shouldn't in the first place. Towing a car from where it doesn't belong makes sense; locking it there does not.

Ever see Parking Wars? (whoa, now that's some drama! ) Cars are booted before they are towed, to ensure the car is still there when the tow truck arrives. You also have cases of booted cars being legitimately parked when found, but they have a lot of outstanding tickets. Booting the car ensures someone will (hopefully) pay the fines so they can release the car.
