  • Would you mess up your house like this?

This is one from way back when I worked at Wal-mart.

It was a very busy day (this was like 10 days before Christmas so you can imagine). I didn't work in the toys section but I worked in the section right next to it, so I got pulled into to toys every now and then.

I'm in the middle of helping out two other people and was just returning from the stockroom when I get stopped by a guy standing by an endcap of action figures.

SC: Hey do you have Metal Ultraman with the Jetpack?

The toy name is made up but he was looking for a specific action figure. One of like 10 varieties of the same figure

M: I don't really know, toys isn't my department. if we have it it should be somewhere on these hooks.

So I go back into my section, help out my customers and then five minutes later, I am walking back through toys and nearly trip over a huge pile of action figures on the floor.

He had removed EVERY SINGLE one of them and left them all lying on the floor. Guess who had to clean that up?

I still see this now at the game store. People (not just kids) will leave our racks and shelves in a wreck after only a few minutes of browsing. Why do people feel they have the right to make a big mess if they don't have to clean it up?

For the exact same reason some people will hit on the cashiers. They know they can get away with it--if you complain, you just know that management will bend over, and give them free gift cards

Is that why people turn my beautiful store into a complete pig stye?
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

Yes, I would mess up my house like that, if I was in a hurry to find something. My house, my hurry, my pig stye, and I'll clean up later when I have the time.

But I would never mess up someone else's house, or a store, or any public place like this. And I don't understand customers (or people in general) who do.

          I have done that....sort of.

I have, for example, gone through bins or shelve looking for a particular whatever, and in essence making a mess. However, *I* clean my mess up when I have either (A) found the item in question or (B) realized that my search was about as likely to turn up my desired item as scratching my balls is to produce a Ferrari in my driveway. (Especially tough, as I don't have a driveway.)

Or in the case of my store, have the manager kick them out! (manager is female and she hasn't been hit on thankfully)

picture this. a slow Sunday afternoon at the pizza place I worked at 25 years ago. A softball team comes in to "celebrate" their victory (the place was right next to a ball field complex so this was not an uncommon occurance).

the softball team orders a bunch of pizza and BEER. said softball team proceeds to trash my dinning room by having a food fight. This entails throwing open shaker bottles full of crushed red pepper and Parm cheese, pizza, salt and pepper shakers ALL over the place, leaving a HUGE mess. They basically trash the WHOLE dinning room (thank what ever diety no one else came in for dine-in service)

and to boot they straight stiffed the server. It took 3 of us like 2 hours to clean up their mess.

yep; if there's a toy section, it will be a disaster within about five minutes of opening, because mommy and daddy turn their spawn loose.

i HAVE had that happen to me, a number of times. i worked at a pizza buffet restaurant and it would make me cringe whenever i would see a couple of people start pulling tables together. it never turns out good, they all want separate orders, never tip and always leave a gigantic mess to clean up after. sometimes they even complain to management because i wasn't perky and cheerful enough for their cheapskate ways. yeah, i love making below minimum wage (i was a waitress depending on getting tips) waiting on a softball team, church group outing or unruly kids' parties and having to clean up for hours after and be cheerful with honey and sunshine spewing out all my pores? nope, not happening.

Hey, if it can produce the Ferrari, a driveway to park it in is small potatoes.

I remember one time when I was about 14, I was looking through some cans for the one can I knew they had, .. and by golly I remembered where each and every can was, and put it back exactly where I remember it being. A store worker came over to me and accused me of theft. Dragged me down to the Manager's office, and they had to watch the security cameras to find out I hadn't been stealing anything. He just wasn't expecting anyone to actually clean up after themselves, so thought I was up to something. He apologized, but I was shaking so hard I couldn't bring myself to come back into the store, even years later. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it instilled within me some pretty nasty psychosocial mental tendencies. :|

We get this all the time in my store. If I catch them making a mess and putting things where they don't belong, I make them clean it up and put it back where they found it.
