Good to know that they're looking into it. I hope you stay in the clear. Next time, if youre able, just back yourself out of the entire situation and have someone else do it under their name.

Man, where do you work? I'd like a free tv too. I am so shocked. Your manager should get fired for costing your company 1000!!! Holy cow!

Co manager is stating it was all about customer service and to keep the customer coming back(haha to get free stuff)[/QUOTE]

I can understand it being about customer service, but wow, maybe a 5-10% discount would be more appropriate.
I wouldn't be surprised if that manager was in on it and selling that stuff on the side.

I think that manager should be fired and criminally prosecuted. I've seen my share of spineless managers. Trust me, the company I work for bends over backwards to kiss the asses of SC's. But that manager should have known better.

If you are trying to retain an unhappy customer, you give them a $10 gift card or something..you don't give them a $1000 television. There are very few reasons why a customer would be justified in receiving something that expensive for free and in those situations the decision would not be made at store level.

That is what leads me to believe that this is a scam between the SC and the co-manager. Even the most spineless manager in the world should know that you don't just give away something like that.

If they do, maybe someone could leak it to the media?

You know what also makes me mad about this? Guess who has to pay for that TV? The rest of the customers, namely the great ones.

*Right* Because someone who has no money (checks are declined, has two maxed out credit cards and gets pissy (blaming the cashier for not having money)) is JUST the sort of customer you want to come back on a regular basis.

Exactly. The thieves make the honest, decent customers pay for their crimes.

I really hope that manager gets fired, and jailed!

Um, you do realize a manager is involved right??? They don't think logically! I had a manager give a quick change artist $20 to keep them happy because "we don't like to offend our customers!"
RIGHT, and our REGULAR customers who we have a program for a gift card if we are out of their brand we can give to them I have been told I am to never give those out unless asked for them! People who come in DAILY and sometimes several times a day we screw over, but a guy pocketing a $20 we bend over backwards to keep happy. OF course I always hint to people if management is around to mention the sign behind me and be able to give them money.
I'm sorry reading is not a new concept it has been widely taught in our nation for at least the past 100 years. Please, learn to do it CORRECTLY before you become contagious.

When I worked wally mart eons ago, I had a manager -ye know those ones that are not assistant or store managers but are above a CSM?

He tore open a box of a new tv to grab the remote and cables to include with a display model tv that was marked down and was being sold to someone from what it seemed he knew. . . it seemed fishy since the SC and the manager seemed a bit buddy buddy.

Few weeks later he was caught and fired, and sent to jail, escorted by local officers for I guess having fraudulent gift cards that he had made up.

So I agree your manager was kinda in on something it seems.
