      In accounting terms this manager has not cost the store $800 or what ever the cost of the TV is, he has not cost them $1000 ie the value of the sale. In terms of costs to the store he has put them something like $1800 behind since them now need to restock that TV again and there is no way to be sure it will be sold.

      Yes, in the long term it tends to even out, but not completely as the money used to buy a replacement TV could had been used to buy something else that could have been making the store money.

          no updates today.


          everyone is happy comngr is on leave. I only work 4-5 hrs a day and comngr worked 3rd shift so i never really dealt with him. My co-workers say he is a dick.

          dept mngr did say sorry for calling me at home but was so upset just felt like it needed to be done

            I'm sure your department manager was just so shocked and upset about finding out a $1000 television was given away that she needed to know what happened right away. It seems like she's on your side in this. She probably wants that manager fired as much a you do.

            I don't understand why he is on leave though. I mean come on, he let a television set go out the door without being paid for. He should have been fired within 24 hours.

              I hope he gets fired. IANAL but couldn't that be considered aiding in theft since he did mark it down to zero? Can he get arested? Please tell me he can, since he has aparently pulled this kind of crap before.

                After rading this, my first thought was "Oh, GREAT! Not only is he a (n apparent alleged) thief, he's a dick too!"

                I despise people that not only steal, but are total jerks in general as well.

                However, after giving it a bit of thought, it's better that he's a dick, rather than a nice guy, because it'll be easier to say Buh-bye to him, and not be highly disappointed in him, or feel sorry for him.

                  I'm quite surprised corporate didn't just fire the innocent checker and promote this loser dept. manager.

                  And the managers who are above CSM's and department managers, but below Assistant managers and Zone managers, are called "Support managers." They function primarily as wildcards to take over if a member of management is not present, but is required.
                  Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

                    See, that is the normal mode of operation for many big companies, but this idiot went a little too far. By discounting a $1000 to $0 he caused any higher-ups to have a WTF! moment and FORCED them to reread the report because they could not believe anyone could be stupid.

                    Noticed I said REREAD? Normally, with a quick read they just blame the cashier and once they are committed to firing said person they can't let the facts change their mind/actions and then lose face. But in forcing a reread, who is to blame becomes clear and the right person gets the staff. Probably he is presently suspended as they get all their legal ducks in a row, why do you think they are collecting all these signed statements? Maybe also seeing what other types of discounts he has given in the past.

                    Worse for him, they may be collecting data to see/prove if this is a regular scam and if they can ID the so-called customer. If that is the case then jail time is waiting for him.

                      update.....

                      the market LP guy was in today. I had off but they called me in.
                      he talked to everyone one on one. they wanted us to watch The video together and explain everything step by step

                      LP guy told i was found not to have anything to do with it.

                          I was wondering, how the SC reacted to getting a free tv. was it:

                          A) still being a douche? "I need someone to cart my tv to my car right now! I have a life you know." Then he comes back latter to complain, "this tv didn't come with cables or a stand! This is unacceptable! I don't have time to come back here to this store because you guys messed up! What scam are you pulling, giving me a free tv but making me buy accessories!"

                          or
                          B) Free tv? Huh. ok.

                              There is so much wrong here I don't know where to begin.

                              First off, what this manager did is not only infeasible, but impossible. To mark a $1000 product to zero with a simple override is not only grounds for termination, but possible criminal prosecution. Your former manager needs to get a lawyer. What makes me think this was an inside job was the fact that (from your description) the SC nonchalantly walked off with the $1000 TV seemingly feeling he had been justly compensated for his inconvenience. No SC is that stupid. No manager is that spineless. This simply can not be a case of SC + spineless manager = free product. This is not a friggin latte or something from the $1 bin.

                              Sorry you had to be caught up in this. In retrospect, (and I doubt you will ever be in this situation again) you should have refused to comply, closed out your till, and allowed your manager to carry this act of theft himself. I'm afraid the investigations and interrogations are yet to come. I've worked in loss prevention before, and this is the mother lode. Corporate won't simply fire the manager, write it off, and c'est la vie. They will want to know what the bloody hell happened.

                              Keep us updated, there is most assuredly much more to come.
