What part of 24 hours do you not understand?

I leave at 9 but the Department closes at 8 PM for final clean up tasks. However, I am expected to answer calls and take orders for the next day. It's 8:47, the phone rings.

Me: <answers>
SC: Hi, I need 12 of X, 10 of Y, 12 of Z.
Me: <writes down> Ok for when?
SC: Tonight.
Me: Ok, sir I'm sorry but we need 24 working hours notice for all special orders. Item X, is a pre-pack item so If i have it in stock, I can sell it to you frozen and all you have do do is let it thaw for a few hours. However, Items Y and Z we will not be able to have ready until at least noon if in stock.
SC: But I neeeeeeeeed it for a important meeting tomorrow at 9:30 AM.
Me: Well. like I said the best I can do is item X, but we will need time to prep items X and Y.
SC: Fine, is the manager in?
Me: Yes, please hold.

I send their whiny entitled self off the the MOD and her nothing back until. 8:55 when MOD calls and says to leave item X they need in back, they will not get items Y and Z. Fine, i set them aside

The time is now 8:57, the phone rings with a outside call.
Me: <answers>
SC: so Items X, Y and Z will be ready for me in the morning for free?
Me: My manager told me that you will be only getting item X, but like I said we need 24 working hours. We are getting you item X in 3 and offered Y and Z in 8 hours at noon.
SC: But Mr. MOD said i would get them all free at 8 AM.
Me: i was not told that, let me check.

I call MOD and ask. They told them the same thing I did. I got to tell SC.

Me: Hi, sorry about the delay, but MOD did not make that offer only what I stated before.
SC: Fine! If you going to lie, i take item X, and not Y and Z. You ruined my meeting, I'll get fired and never shop with <company> again! *slam phone down*

I left a note for the poor AM person will will get to deal with this moron, assuming they show up.

Augh. . . if there is one thing that really gets me up the wall is when a SC gives me the 'well so-so said it would be free/cheaper/<insert ripoff scam>' Whenever I'm faced with that I tell them that I wasn't told or made aware of it and that they would have to take it up with the person who supposedly made the sale/deal. Usually they pay and leave with no incident.

This guy obviously must suck at his job if he didn't plan accordingly to have certain items ready before his important morning meeting...I hope he got chewed for it

See as much as I hate Customer Service, I'm happy that all my jobs have been mostly Service and not Product based jobs. 24 hours is VERY hard for SCs to understand.

I think their EW minds turn it into MINUTES. Or they think, "24 hours is a full day. So they must mean TOMORROW." Even if tomorrow is only 8 hours away.

If this guy's demonstration of his (lack) of planning abilities is any example of how he normally operates, he's likely going to lose his job for more reasons than not having something ready for one morning meeting.

And to call you back only a few minutes after he got off the phone with the manager... what, did he think the manager magically warped out of the store and that you wouldn't check? I hope he doesn't try to trick the morning crew with that line.

I once told a customer they were required to pre-pay for their advertising. They said "oh no, we have a special arrangement." So I called our credit dept and spoke to the manager. His reply was: "Yeah, the arrangement is that they pay in advance."

Called the customer back and repeated this to them. They paid.

So today the phone rings around 12:45-1 PM.

Me: <answers phone>
SC; Hi I need to place a order.
Me: Ok, what do you need?
SC: 50 item X, 12 item Y, 1 item Z.
Me: Ok, for when?
SC: 3 PM.
Me: *thinking I know where this will go* Ok and what day?
SC: today.
Me: *dammit* Ok, unfortunately for Item Z <person who does these orders> has left for the day. The earliest I can do is, <checks schedule> 10 AM Tomorrow.
SC: *mumbling* Every time I call the same issuere happen. Fine do you have anything similar for TODAY.
Me: Yes, however <explains differences>. For what you need, we need 24 working hours notice.
SC: Fine, I'll take it but I'm not happy. But you WILL get me items X and Y for 3.
Me: I'm sorry but we only have 5 of item Y left in stock and item X requires at least 4 hours of prep time (assuming I have no interruption or other work).
SC: You know what, every time I call the same thing happens. forget it, forget the whole thing this is pathetic customer service. *slams down phone*

I asked a CW who normally works that shift and they said SC usually calls with large orders 3-6 times a month. Once they gave them 30 minutes notice for a $300 order, on the phone, en route to the store. They said sorry, you can have what in on the the shelf when you show up. They never did.

Matt my headaches at the the stubborness this SC clings to in his belief that there is no 24 hour rule. Also I punched the desk and hurt my hand.

I will place the blame of my pain on your customer and not you.

The working definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. And honestly, if you expect to be told that the store requires 24 hours notice, why not give 24 hours notice?

I bet he complains in all the stores he shops in when they don't have his exact desires in stock. My faith in humanity is quickly approaching the negative numbers

I fell for the "oh you guys always just bill us for services" line. Once. These particular guys DID eventually pay, so I didn't get into too much hot water over it >_>
