Part of the wish included a free cel phone.
The father's "issue" is that his son just bought a new cel phone and the company that provided the original one refuses to provide free minutes for the new one.

Personally, I'd just be glad my son was still alive to USE a cel phone.

You're expecting SCs to look at the big picture? In a perfect world, perhaps. Alas, this is not a perfect world. So instead of them being thankful that they have a kid who's still alive to be able to have a phone, they're more concerned about the phone itself.
