You know Mango, after reading your posts and those of Gravekeeper, I'm starting to think there's an abnormally high concentration of crazy people up in Canada.

Lately I've had a lot of people using the phrase "Holy cow!" when I bring them their food at The Bar. Naturally, if it is a burger, steak, or steak sandwich, I answer, "Yes. Yes it is."

true, there are adorable old men, unfortunately for most women under 40, we tend to encounter more of the skeezy ones.
            look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

Nice to see those variables used correctly...
I was wondering if anyone here would pick that up

Let me see if I have this straight. You took a call from a person who was obviously batshit crazy, making pretty much no sense on the call, and you let the call go on for over sixteen minutes? WHY?!?!?
Well, I can't really hang up on a customer unless they're being abusive, which almost never happens. Unfortunately, many of the crazy ones are actually good customers, (though this one hasn't spent so much as a penny) so as a rule we try to keep them happy. Plus it makes for a good story later.

And, while less common, there are also some skeezy old women who are quite creepy.
                I can testify about that.
                Unfortunately.

C: "Hello dear, this is Edith. I was calling to renew my subscription."
Me: "Okay, I'd be delighted to help you with that Edith. For another year?"
C: "Wait just a moment dear, don't you want my full name and phone number?"
Me: [glances at Caller ID] "Edith Lastname, (npa) nxx-xxxx?"
C: "Oh my! Why...yes! How did you...!?"
Me: "I remember ALL of the pretty girls!"

[My 92-year-old customer blushes so hard I can feel it through the phone.]

C: "One of these days I'll have to have a party with all of you men!"

You know what? You're 67 years older than I am, but I really look forward to that.

                      I shall bring chips!

I think it's just that BC seems to attract the crazy people in higher concentrations. No wonder I left! Well, that and going to university in NL is majorly cheaper than going to a university in BC.

Speaking of Surrey - I used to work at a gas station (which appears to have been replaced in part by the Reflex Food & Shake Bar according to Google Maps) and we used to get some very interesting customers in. In particular was Bubbles...she was a rather rotund lady of the night with a heart of gold...who would pop in to buy condoms. We all wished she would also invest in panties...because nobody really wanted to see her wares when she would bend over in the store. Sweet lady, but...yeah.
I grew up in the soggy Fraser Valley. I can attest that there is a high percentage of crazy in that region. Rain will do that to you. People wear bright and discordant colors because some weeks it's the only brightness you ever see.

And as for Surrey, well... I lived in North Delta (the municipality right next to Surrey), and when I was little there was a joke going around my elementary school: "Where do Surrey girls go when they get up in the morning? ... Home."

Now I live in the same general region that GK LEFT to move to BC. My opinion? He's nuts. I'm NEVER going back there, except maybe to visit my brother and his kids, and I'm still trying to get them to leave.

I wish I could throw a party for the Ediths of the world. (Including their male counterparts.)
                                Seshat's self-help guide:
                                1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
                                2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
                                3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
                                4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.
