  • Anyone else hate kids who pay with crumpled up dollar bills and change?

I have found the perfect way to get back at these evil kids who obviously don't have the slightest clue what a wallet or a debit card is, and thus they throw crumpled up bills and change on the counter.
So what I do is simple.... I take my sweet time and straighten out the bills, and I count the change TWICE, all while giving them a look that says, "That's right, if you give me a bunch of change and crumpeld up bills, I will make you wait". Thank God kids these age most likely will not go and complain like adults will. They leave when the transaction is done. and the look on their face seems to say that they get the point, or does it? One can only hope

Guilty...and not a kid. I never put my cash in my wallet. However...

    1) I rarely carry cash.
    2) I always pre-straighten my bills before I hand them over.
    3) I work under the assumption that I can always lose my wallet, but if I don't know where my pants are, I have bigger problems.
Enjoy my latest stupid quest for immortality. http://1001plus.blogspot.com/

I've had tons of adults do that to me as well over the years.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

Oh God yes, they are just as guilty, and do you think they give a dam that they just might be holding up a line by doing so? Hell no!
As for me, I am proud to say that I pay for everything with credit cards, the fastest, easiest, and simplest way you can pay. No counting out bills, no digging in pockets or purses for coins, no waiting for customers to write a check, and even more time wasted should you have to call it in, and then listen to them complain about how they have so much money in their accounts and how dare we not accept their check.
I think credit or debit cards should be the way everyone pays (not kids obviously) and if people are just careful what they spend and don't go overboard, you won't wind up in credit card debt like my best friend. No offense intended to those of you who prefer paying a different way, this is simply my opinion.

Crumpled bills...ugh. Still a step above wet money, though.

For one reason or another, I don't always put bills into my wallet right away. Thus, they occasionally get crumpled and wrinkly at the bottom of my purse. However, if all the money I have are those crumpled bills, I make sure to straighten 'em out as much as possible before actually using 'em.

There are some countries, though, that absolutely will not accept crumpled and otherwise damaged currency. Whenever my mom goes on medical missions in South America, she always makes sure the money she takes with her is nice and neat and free of any bad spots. One time, when she was in Peru, her group got stuck with $50 that they couldn't spend because the bill had a slight tear in it.

The only thing worse than crumpled up money is money pulled out of a bra. Wet money pulled out of a bra. After much rooting around.
              Argh.
And if I made a face, it was usually answered with 'that way, it doesn't get stolen'.
              Yeah, I'll bet it doesn't.

I, too, don't like crumpled-up bills. I also straighten them out before counting any of them, though I do crumple newer bills that are still stiff and stick together.

I carry most of my cash in my pocket, but it's always folded neatly, and "faced" too (all facing the same direction), organized in descending order.

Several reasons you should reconsider that.
                  • Usually it takes more time for the machine to do its thing with its host than it does to make change.
                  • On small purchases you are really fucking the merchant. There is a flat fee plus a percentage per transaction. On small purchases the flat fee alone can eat all the profit.
                  • Marketing companies know everything you buy.
                  • In some places it is impractical to do electronic payment. Street fairs or parking lots where there is no power to the little booth.

I once witnessed a woman hand her card to a parking lot attendant for $1.50. When he told her that he only takes cash she started whining "but, I never carry cash", and then tried to get out of paying. He wasn't having any of it and told her the location of several ATMs. She still whined but I thought it was great.

Holy nuggets I only had a problem with this once. A lady needed one more dollar for her lottery tickets and she was digging in her purse for I swear an entire minute (which is a long time when there's a line) and pulled out this one dollar bill that was so disgustingly crumpled I had to pull it apart with the help of the tip of a pen so I wouldn't rip it. It was stuck together with some kind of sticky liquid and I ended up getting it all opened up and went and washed it in the sink and taped it to the fan to dry it off before putting it in my drawer. Definitely the worst crumpled bill I ever had. Took me forever to get it apart.

I rarely stuff money into my pockets (other than change). I try to give it to the clerks in decent order. I'm also trying really hard not to use my debit card for minor purchases. I don't want to give any more money to the evil credit card companies than absolutely necessary, and I also am trying to avoid nickel and dimeing myself to death with purchases under $10.

It's amazing how much money you can waste when you use a card. Paying cash is more real, and makes me more careful about what I buy.

Especially if you were like me last year at this time and did not care to check my balance-wound up overdrafted by $100 and the fees, too. It sucked.

Just be aware that it ends up costing you more in the long run when you use a credit card to pay for things. also as a small business owner ... small purchases we have to pay a fee on each and every one so we end up loosing almost all profits just in order to have the convenience for the customer.

Problem with that is, that a piece of paper (or a $20 bill) can fall out of your pocket without you noticing it (has happened to me before, unfortunately). A wallet falling out of your pocket is a bit more noticeable.

For purchases of at least $5.00, sure. But if all you're getting is a soda at the local convenience store, cash is better. Too many charges get tacked onto both the payer and the payee.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.
