well to be fair, what i am offering people is not costing them money, it is saving them money. theres that difference.
as an aside, someone asks me "do you need help?'" I respond, "no I am all set." They say "are you sure?" and I respond "I was looking for somewhere but I found it I am all set." Then they call the cops saying I was rude to her. Even if I was rude, which is a lie, how the hell is being rude to someone a reason to call the cops?

I, too, fail to see the difference.

I have a "No Soliciting" sign on my door. It is there to stop people from soliciting my money, soliciting my business, soliciting my soul, etc. It works, mostly.

Soliciting is asking me for something, and I don't want people doing it at my door. In other words, it is a polite way of saying "Don't bother us." Hmmm... Maybe that would be a better sign, but I don't think my wife would approve of it.

As for the people doing the door-to-door soliciting, our neighborhood Yahoo Group listserve frequently has postings about such activities. This lets those on the listserve know who is canvassing the neighborhood, and why. It is nice to have that kind of notice of these activities.

I simply do not answer the door to any one other than friends, family and delivery drivers from places that I have ordered from.

I am not sorry to say that I do not give an audience to ANY door-to-door person - one polite no is all they will get.

and i dont care if you turn me down, thats fine. i'll say thank you and leave. dont then call the cops saying "theres a salesman at my door asking me questions..." thats my fucking JOB. and im tired of ppl wasting my time
