Too Confusing

I had some woman take offense to me today at my Aid of Rite because I used the phrase "Did you find what you were looking for"?

"That's too confusing! You should ask people 'Was there something you didn't find today that I can help you find?'"

How in the world do they differ? I mentally and went on with the transaction.

So Insulting

Apparently checking money to see if it's counterfeit is an insult.

"You know, I understand you need to do that, but it's such an insult."

How so? You're the only one that's complained.

For the 1st story-how in the HELL do they differ? The second one is phrased in the negative, the first is framed in the positive. I don't get it.
