  • too lazy to call but mad anyways

So all week this crap has went on all week. So a guy comes in and ask if we have no salt popcorn. I tell yes I can make it first thing in the morning before I make the regular popcorn.I do it for one of the custodians that is a diabetic. We why can't you make a batch now, you have two kettles. Uggh so I explain that the one kettle is for "sweet" popcorn and can never be used for reg popcorn. And the other bin is already filled with salted popcorn.I give him my store number and tell him to just call me at 10:00 when I arrive at the store, or he can come by and tell me and I'll make a no salt batch.I think Im going out of my way just giving him the store number. Also its a pain cause I have to bag it and find someplace to keep it hot.Theres no room when all the other popcorn is popped. Well the guy has called not once this week but has came in to bitch everyday. What is so hard about calling?

See, he doesn't actually want the popcorn. He just wants to yell and complain and you are the oh-so-lucky latest target in his little game of "Employee Snipe Hunt."

    Good luck keeping your cool.

Exactly. He's not coming in to get no-salt popcorn (and he probably would not buy much if he did)...he's coming in because he wants something to complain about.

You need to buy a bag of no-salt microwave popcorn. Pop it when he gets there. Hand it to him.

Tell him if he had called before showing up you'd have had time to pop the good stuff for him.

(If only calling a customer to task for their suckiness wouldn't get you disciplined. *le sigh*)

technically, since he's not buying anything, he doesn't really have a reason to be there. maybe tell him 'buy something or get out.'??

            What a prick.

Is your management supportive of their employees? If so, next time he bitches I'd consider a polite but firm response along the lines of,

"Sir, as I've explained, here is the situation. I've offered for you to call me and advised that I'd have fresh popcorn for you, yet I haven't heard from you. Shall I have my manager call you to discuss this? Perhaps he can make some other arrangement to suit you."

This would put the onus on him and let him know that you have no control over it.

And yes, I think you're going above and beyond in trying to work with this clown and (assuming your managers arent assholes), it's time to shut him down. He clearly just wants to bitch for the sake of bitching and is additionally assholish because he's bitching at someone who is making an attempt to help him.
