Icy roads make for a slow dead day at work, right? Wrong!

Update.... Mother Nature has decided to bless us with more dam icy roads so you can guess what that means. Yeah, schools are closed, and more idiots who can't actually be parents and show a little discipline and tell their kids no will be going out to the movies again.
Now for the good news. I don't have to work til later on tonight, and by then it should be dead. Plus I was told customers will stay home after it gets dark out, but after what I've seen last week I wouldn't be surprised if it is busy.
And now for some more bad news. Since we closed early 3 times last week due to the icy roads and snow, the theatre will probably do the same thing again today, which means I lose another shift due to this crappy weather. Thank you Mother Nature
Thank God I got a huge tax return coming to cover the time I've missed.

I feel you, my bank is generally open even when we get almost 2 feet of snow.

Ugh, I feel you. Back when we had layaway and my county still put out snow emergency levels, there was a snowstorm come up that had every county telling everyone to stay the hell home. But when I called work, it was imperitively crucial that I come in and cover second shift layaway. How many customers did I have?

Zero. Unless you count making change for another employee.

And on top of that, I slid off the road twice and was forced off the road once, and in doing that, ended up damaging my oil pan to the point that my car stopped running.

Of course now, my county doesn't seem to think that any amount of snow or ice is enough to make people stay home. I swear my employer must have paid them to stop doing that, so we could get people in to work.

Another update.... The icy roads were not as "icy" as first thought, but they were barely bad enough to make the schools close. So the roads cleared up fast, alot of people (kids included) had the day off, and guess where they went? Yup to the movies! I was even fighting the flu, and although I was feeling fine at the moment, I didn't want to have to work extra hard feeling this way, especially if the medicine decided to wear off.
You might think I was praying that I didn't have to go to work, but the truth is, despite a huge tax return coming, I do need the money, so I wanted to go to work. I figured it'd be dead at night at least, especially if the roads were gonna be ok tomorrow and there was school and work. Well we were quite busy, busy enough to the point where we should've had 2 or 3 people in the stand working. On top of everything else, I had a whole bunch of customers continuously push my buttons to try and make me mad, asking for everything. 1 stupid lady wanted her drinks filled all the way, right up to the very top where if you put the lids on them, it will leak out, and it did. Fucking cheapskate.
I begged the usher to let me switch with him and work his job instead, but he said he hated concession and preferred to keep his usher shift. Ushers are so lucky, they don't have to deal directly with customers hardly at all.
I finally got my wish and things slowed down to the point where I had 1 customer every half hour or so, and the rest of the night went smoothly for me. Today is my day off, and I am not gonna let them try to convince me to go to work.

I live around you (I think...dfw?) And this weather was horrible. My younger brother was out of school for far too long. We stayed at home and had family board game time until I was ready to lose my mind. Luckily yesterday wasn't as icy and he ended up having to go to school.

Unless you're a west coast wimp like me. I live on the south coast of BC and when we get more than about 2 cm of snow, we're crippled. I fear we're the laughingstock of the rest of the country.[/QUOTE]
