    When her ID slid behind the counter, I would have been soooooo tempted to pretend it didn't happen and ask her for an ID....

    And yes, I would have waited for her to hang up/moved on to another customer if I thought I could get away with it ^_^

      Well... they *look* like credit cards. They're used like credit cards. So it makes sense that, if there's something important about them that's different (such as destruction by phone) that it would be a welcome service, rather than an offense, to mention that.
      Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.
