Insulin doesn't need to be refridgerated anymore, BUT it must be kept at room temperature. The temps in a storage container would inactivate it and make it useless.
I take it that would depend on the type of insulin . . . my mom's takes Lantus, which requires refrigeration, as does her Byetta pen. If either are left out at room temperature for long, they both spoil and are considered unsafe to use.

Why this moron even thought that she could safely transport her meds in a storage container is beyond me . . if that had been my mother, she'd had the Lantus and Byetta in a cooler packed with ice and her other meds in a ziploc bag and all of it within arm's reach.

Same here, on the meds I mean. I'm allowed to keep my lantus out just due to the fact that five pens equal one month for me. A loss of weight would greatly reduce that number.

To have that insulin carried incorrectly is just scary.

I just remembered my mom does have a small travel bag with a cold pack that carries her Byetta pen if she goes out for the evening . . . but then Mom always takes her meds at home so she's not used her bag so far.

And where's she's got the bag right now I have no clue . . . I have to have a search warrant to find anything in her room.
