...the.. ...parents, who were in the waiting area, apparently didn't care that security just escorted their children back to the waiting area....

This is awful. I mean, for the kids to behave this way in a hospital?
People are in a hospital because of terrible injuries, or they're there to see loved ones who are sick and possibly dying; this kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable in such an environment.

And on a side note, I'll say I'm also horrified to imagine an 8-year-old hurling an "F-Bomb"at an adult. Between that and kids nowadays agreeing to secretly use their camera phones to beat up another classmate and then post the video of it onto a national website I really have to wonder about what sort of children are out there today.

My dad and I were out for lunch one day and there was a little boy in a high chair across the aisle from us. He wasn't more than 2, and wasn't being *bad*, but was being a little noisy and making a bit of a mess. Not enough to be bothering other people unless you're overly sensitive to that sort of thing. I asked my dad if he was glad those days are over, and he said that my brother and I were always well behaved when we went out. Gee, I got spanked once in a while, too....I'm relatively well adjusted...

I'm 28 and I STILL get zotted if I'm too obnoxious around my parents. LOL I grew up just fine. I spank my kids when they're bad, even in public, and tell them ALL the time that I'm a horrible mother and they should trade me in for a better one. Somehow, and I don't know how, its worked out that they always say, "No, you're not! You're a good mommy!" while still rubbing their bottoms.

I've had a couple people make comments about spanking, I pretty much tell them that at least they won't be seeing my kids on the news for killing or shooting anyone, and to stuff it.

If I misbehaved, I got a spanking, too. I don't think I'm any the worse for it. I was much like you when I was 18 ahanix- straight A student, never smoked, drank or did any drugs. (still don't smoke or do drugs-now I'm of age I drink occasionally) Back then, kids could be rotten, but mostly, they were just being kids. Today- goddamn. I can't believe the children I see and how they walk all over their parents. I am flummoxed by their behavior and the parents lack of parenting. I am also reminded of a time when employees of the stores COULD and DID reprimand children who were misbehaving if a parent was not paying attention. Nowadays, that is a huge no-no. I still can't get over that, either. If your kid is doing something dangerous or horrible, I should have the right to gently correct that action if your mother is too off in la-la land to do it herself. I seem to recall parents thanking employees for doing these things rather than having a major freak-out if an employee saved their kid from falling off a ladder or playing with something they shouldn't be...not so anymore.

That would mean that the parents actually recognize that there is a problem with the kids or care enough to fix it. I find that most evil kids are evil because the parent either dosen't care or thinks the kid is fine and it is the world that has a problem.

I got spanked pretty hardily as a child and quite often, but at least I wouldn't act like one of the child terrorists on Supernanny because as soon as I got halfway to that point, I got pummelled on the ass real hard.

I have been firsthand witness to a child worse than any ever seen on Supernanny. I got sent to an alternative school as a teenager for a week over some minor disciplinary measure (got in a small scuffle). This school banned talking, even during lunchtime, and banned clothing logos (they were taped over) to combat gangs. There were metal detectors and every backpack was searched. My misbehavior did not compare to the likes of the kids in this school, and I never went there again. It was like a prison for school kids.

There were two buildings, one for 1st-6thgraders and one for 7th-12th graders. I was in 11th grade. There was a seventh grader in there that was my size and he got put in there for bullying kids at his school. I saw kids in there that occasionally went to our public school, but for the most part were lifers in this alternative school.

Arriving late accidentally to this school one day, I noticed that the younger kids building had locked their door and an 8 year old boy stood outside pummeling on the door, screaming curse words like a gangster kid. Here is the incdident as well as I remember it.

DC: "Open this f@#$ing door!"

MT opens door.

DC: "Why'd you lock the door you stupid bitch!?"

MT: "You are late...do not talk to me that way, calm down."

FK: "F@#K YOU!!!"

MT: proceeds to try to drag stupid kid in.

FK: "I will kick your ass if you touch me, bitch!" "Never lock the door ON ME, NEVER!"

A female teacher comes along and comes to assist male teacher. After some more choice words from little shit, they actually restrain both of his flailing arms and try to haul him into the classroom. He fights and cusses, never crying, but more like a demonic anger. Screaming venom all the way in the class and even after the door is closed.

At least the older kids were a little more civil, but you would think that the reverse would be true. This kid did not just say one curse word, he threatened and actually tried to assault his teachers, and it was all a game to him.

Where are the parents? Who is raising this little heathen?! I can't believe I saw this with my own two eyes.

This is why I'ma huge proponent of stores adopting a legal waiver policy. If you have children you need to sign this waiver before you shop here.

Provisions of said waiver:

1: Store is not responsible for any harm that befalls your child while he is not under your direct supervision.

2: Any damage caused by your child will be added to the bill of your purchase if you are making one. If you are not making a purchase then a bill will be sent to you. Failure to pay said bill will result in legal action.


Course it will never happen, but its nice to dream.

Back to the subject of bathroom terrorists, I remember working at one fast food restaurant seeing something pretty unusual. This was years ago. I saw one kid go in the restroom just a minute before I decide to go (about 10 or 11 years old). I went in to the sink to wash my hands and I heard a toilet paper dispenser being rapidly unrolled in the stall without halt. From the view under the stall, I could see a toilet paper pile developing on the floor as this kid continued to unroll it. For some reason I decide it would be best to wait it out and see how far he goes. For three minutes or so he kept unrolling the paper and he finally stopped and exited the stall slowly. As he did so, I watched him, and he looked at me with a very guilty look like he knew he did something wrong. I looked in the stall and there was a MASSIVE pile of paper on the floor, and he bolted out the door. I go outside and his parents are getting ready to leave. I didn't stop them, but this kid looked at me with wide eyes all the way out the front door.

At least when I was at the barn, we could post an understood consent sign, whereby we could not be sued because a person's presence at the barn implied that they knew that horses could potentially be dangerous.

However, there was one lady who leased a horse that was boarded there. She was a pediatrician, and a complete idiot. She'd bring her 2 young children who would run around unsupervised while she rode. They'd get into the cat food and strew it everywhere, I caught the older one once trying to dunk a cat headfirst into a 5 gallon bucket full of water. She got hollered at.
They also had no concept of danger whatsoever. The younger one ran up behind one gelding and hugged his hind leg before we could stop her Thank god he was a good horse, he startled, but he didn't hurt her. There was another occasion where I had a horse pulling back on a rope and the girl was sitting right behind her.
I told her to move. She stopped and asked me why. I screamed at her to "MOVE NOW!"
Then she got her butt out of the way and then complained to her mom about the "mean lady". What did the mom say? "Oh, I want her to learn from the school of hard knocks."
There's the school of hard knocks, and then there's the school of flattened road kill. Yeesh.

They were also extremely mean to some of the other girls who boarded there, one of which was a pretty fat girl. The mom didn't seem to notice what a hellion she had. But then, the mom did a lot of things that scared the living crap out of me with the horses she was borrowing. I tried to avoid the days she'd come up to ride, just because I knew that she'd be running into me constantly, and at the time my mare was 2 with less than 90 days of riding on her.

That sounds more like a mental illness, not just a game to the kid. Somehow I doubt that kid was entirely in control. My son was like this when he was little (like 3years old, no kidding, minus the swearing, because he hadn't learned those words yet), and it wasn't until we found the wonderful program he's in now that he began to learn to control himself. Now, he'd never have a violent outburst like that, and quite frankly, it really used to upset HIM when he'd behave that way. He simply didn't know any other way to cope with his frustration and anxiety (both of which are big problems for aspergers kids).

Back in the '60s in the small town where I lived, parents used to threaten unruly boys with being sent to military school. Girls were threatened with being sent to the Catholic school where the nuns had no compunction about whopping kids.

(Off topic: the school was Immaculate Conception, known locally as "Clean F*** High" even though it was grades K-12).

I guess she'd had an accident or something and grandma was trying to clean her up. And the grandmother didn't speak English (I think they were Chinese), and this little girl is trying to translate to tell grandma that she can't be having this child standing in the sink! The kid's mother was in the store too; I don't know where she was during all this.

Actually, I've done this. My ex-bf's youngest is autistic and isn't potty-trained yet (I think he's almost 5 now), and the last time we went out, poor kid overfilled his diaper (his dad gives him juice to drink all day long, no wonder the kid pees a lot!), wet all his clothes, right down to his sneakers, and we had to make a run to Target to get him all new clothes, so I brought him to the bathroom to change him, and sort of gave him a standing sponge-bath in one of the sinks (we'd also bought a little bottle of lysol, so I wiped everything down after I was done too). I don't think that's cruddy, unless you don't pick up after yourself.

I hate people that think that they can let their little demons run around free like it's a playground. Of couse these are the same people that think it's ok to take their kids to to toy department and leave them there while they shop..

My, oh my! First of all, what were these parents thinking allowing their children to run around a hospital, by themselves and at ages 4 and 8? I have twins that are almost 4 and I never let them out of my sight, let alone go to a public restroom without myself or my wife present. Secondly, don't people that leave their children alone, like in a toy department at a store know anything about Adam Walsh? It only took a few minutes for disaster to strike. I live in South Florida, and that incident seems like yesterday. Because of that, I never let my kids out of my sight for one nanosecond.

And, if either of them were to ever say "F*** you!" to any adult, they would definitely receive a treatment that would make them never want to say that again. (Don't worry. I'm not brutal.)

I always hated to see kids left alone to play with the trains in my last store. Right around the corner is the bathrooms and an emergency exit. So easy to just grab and go while mom and dad are on the other side of the department or the store.
