    You already spent the money?

Let me first off say hope everyone had a good Easter, bunny day and are doing ok from chocolate bunny overload.

This didn’t happen to me today but to a cw. This colorful a.k.a 'ghetto' SC comes to our shop, since I guess we were one of the few auto shops open on Easter Sunday. She needs a tire on car that has gone flat and beyond repair. In reality she needs to replace all her tires but could only afford one. She says she doesn't have much money and I guess presumed tires are like 20 bucks. . . whatever. Of course are prices are too high.

My cw offers her the solution that she try and open a store credit card through us so she could get at least the one tire. She applies and is denied. But we offer her the chance to open a credit card with another bank. In case your wondering the corporate megalith has a deal with 2 different banks besides the one they mainly use for the main store credit cards. They offer another one through another bank which is good for people who have bad credit or no credit. She applies and is approved for a $500 hundred dollar limit. She leaves to go to the main store since it is the only other retail store open during the holiday at the mall, while she waits to get the tire installed.

She returns and when trying to use the newly opened credit card to pay for the tire she is denied the purchase. Thinking the computer hiccupped we try again and again another denial response. It is when she admits that she just bought a television at the store while waiting with the newly opened card. WTF!? Hence the reason why she is being denied cause she has already used up her limit. Being she has no money she cannot pay for the tire, so we tell her that she can go back and try to return the television, but it may not work since the amount would already be on hold on her card and would take at least a day for them to void the amount on her credit. She goes back and they to the return but let her know that the amount would not be credited immediately. She returns and after speaking with the assistant manager we allow her get her keys and drive off with the tire which technically hasn’t been paid for yet, but after we have gotten a copy of her drivers license (we already have her phone, address and information on the computer) and she agrees to return on Wednesday to pay the pending bill. My CW was ticked that someone who knowingly knows they have no money would spend the money she has on the credit card soo quickly for something frugal instead of on something of necessity.

You’re not closed until I leave.

The last few hours of the day it slowed up, we closed at 6pm and after cashing out the last customer at 5:45, on the dot at 6 we locked the doors. Today was a pretty uneventful day, other than stupid credit card girl.

Another CW, a couple of the techs and I are chilling in the back of the store waiting for 6:30 to roll in so we could clock out and go home. The side entrance of the store was unlocked but closed like it is during a business hours, that’s the door we use to leave when we close up.

But I guesss for this SC that wasn’t good enough and the only way for him to get in after we have officially closed was that side door. He comes in through the side entrance, we all stare at him with that look of “Yeah what the hell you want?” and he asks if we closed at six (duh the doors are locked) We tell him that yes we do close at 6pm and his response was that it wasn’t even 6 pm yet that it was 10 till (time for him to get a new watch I think). We correct him on this by pointing at the time stated on the computer screens.

Course he doesn’t like to be corrected, but IDC were closed lol. (When we close the doors, my nice customer service switch, shuts off ) My CW agrees to help him anyways since he’s not looking for vehicle service but for a portable power unit that we carry in store. However we are out of stock and sold out of them (they sell quick). Course the SC is not happy then goes on this lie how some other CW offered to sell it to him for 50% off the day before, which is totally untrue. We don’t even have the item so let’s sell you something we don’t have, half off?

He stares at the empty shelf for a min and then goes off on how a competitor has something similar for less, which to me is like ‘why didn’t ya go there first then?’ and walks out. My CW is a nice guy, sometimes a bit sensitive and can get nervous easily but he himself was like “fuck that dude” lol

Far too many people's brains go right out the window the moment they get a credit card. I really do hope she does come back and pay for the tire, and didn't give you fraudulent information, but I wouldn't be surprised if she did a runner.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

Yeah, some people just go nuts with that little piece of plastic..."you mean I can get this stuff and not give you any money? You just swipe this piece of plastic and I get FREE stuff?" They have no concept of paying the bill, or owing money when the bill does come in.

Or any large chuck of change. Yes, I do see some who quip about avioding eviction or repo when they get their refund checks; but then, I see those with 5 and 6-figure student loan balances who take their checks to buy the latest hotest electronic gewgaw.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

Maybe they're trying to keep getting the interest-on-the-loan tax credit continuously for as long as possible?

$20 for a new tire? you can't even get retreads for that much; what planet was she from? er, nevermind...it was planet stupid.

must have been a real brain wracker for her: tires, which i need to get around, or tv, which i absolutely MUST have for all my soap operas, reality tv and shopping channels. yep, a real brain buster right there.

he came in through the out door...lol. he needs a new watch or new brain?

I would have loved to hang around to see how she would get her TV home without any transportation. Probably try to bum a ride or something

I would bet that just about 100% of the regulars on this board did. Depressing as hell.

If I was that broke and needed tires, I probably would have used the card to buy four good tires. But that's me.

I have known people who are good with money. I have known people who are a little too laid back with money. And I have also known people who just aren't good with money and have trouble keeping track of it etc.

I'm not sure if I've ever met anyone who thought that a credit card was FREE money though @.@

That only applies to mortgages. The consumer interest deduction was repealed in the late '80s.

I have a CW who still thinks credit cards = free money. They applied for ever card offer they got, maxed it out and maybe payed the min. amt due once. They still swear it is BS and are getting scammed, while living in the parents basement and getting rides because their credit is so F*cked up they cant get a apartment or car loan, even from one of the "bad credit no problem" places.
