I don't think it works so well at anime cons, but at general sf/fantasy cons, if someone is bothering you, all you have to do is loudly ask them to leave you alone. And the problem will be solved. Because at those kind of cons, every single man there wants to be a hero, and will come to your rescue if you appear to be in distress.

The timing makes me suspicious that you were at a convention where the theme is centered around pretty pink and white flowers that fall from trees. Correct?

Either way, I hate those kinds of people at cons. I was dressed up in a white gown most of the weekend of the aforementioned con, and I kept getting people asking to 'kiss the bride' whenever I went off con grounds. Misunderstands are fine, I just thanked the folk who told me congratulations and moved on, but creepers are detestable.

That con was this last weekend!?!?!?! Dang it. I was going to try and make that one this year. Never made it through the line to get in last year (left after 3.5 hours)

Saw some interesting types last time we went to Comic Con.

Ew ew ew, creepy con creeps! I've been cat called and asked "how much" while walking home in Goth Lolita.

That said, I really should get back on the con circuit...

Oh, every time I hear a con horror story, I feel bad for the people involved.

But I've seen the guy from the first story all over the place... usually I can steer clear of him, but occasionally my security-ly duties force me to have to come in contact with him. That makes me sad.

Are you coming to Anime Central? And if you are, what's your artist table going to be called? (PM me if you don't want it on the boards.) I'll stop by and say hi during my rounds.

Both of the conventions I regularly attend (general s/f) have a reminder in the program book that people need to keep themselves clean.

There was a lovely article on the internet years ago about a character called Cat Piss Man. I can't find the article, sadly, but the gist of it was that if you run a comic shop, and this stinky, breathe-in-your-face, leer-at-female-employees character is in your shop browsing your comics and not spending money, you have every right to make him leave. He's ruining your business by driving off other customers, and you don't have to coddle him and accept his behaviour.

If I had an artist's alley table and had someone like that hovering over me, I'd be asking him to leave and then asking security for help.

                >.> I may not be the first to ask this, but were you perhaps... At Anime Boston this past weekend? Or was there another con further west this past weekend?
I have CDO. It's kinda like OCD, but the letters are where they should be!

After Tuesday, even the calendar goes W T F...

The worst thing is that people like that play in to the stereotypes of all fantasy/SF/anime/comics/whatever fans being dirty, socially clueless geeks who live in their mothers' basements. I've met some wonderful people at cons.

Found your article on Cat Piss Man. It's the 4th post down: http://forum.rpg.net/archive/index.php/t-36461.html

I love how these guys make everyone else who likes that sort of thing look like lifeless nerds. I know a lot of really awesome people who are into anime, gaming, sci-fi, and such.

The comic shop I used to go to (rather infrequently) had several cat piss men, luckily I was almost never there at the same time. I can't remember what happened to the first one, or the set of brothers, but one of them used to come in and sit around reading comics. The owner got sick of this and told him that he couldn't read the comics anymore until he paid for them. So he brought his own. This rather irritated the owner, so he enlisted the help of one of the regulars to get rid of the guy. The regular walked in front of CPM, pulled his shorts halfway down and sat down to read a book. CPM never came back.

Judging from Rena's location, I'd hazard to guess that she was at the other big con happening this past weekend, on the other end of the country. The one named after cherry blossoms.

Not too up to date on cons held on the West coast, and I've met vendors and artists' alley tables from across the states, so it wouldn't surprise me either way

                              Awesome pwnage.

I've quit buying comics because the local comic store has CPM like attributes. Several of the employees are comic snobs (the owner's not a bad guy though). The place is worn down and smells bad, and is unwelcoming to all but the regulars who prowl the place.

There's a new store in another town that's actually closer . . . I've got to get myself over there as I do miss buying comics.

Good sir, you probably are very correct in your assumption because yes, it is centered around these pretty pink/white flowers you described.
