    It means, very simply, go.
Actually, it means look both ways, then go.

I've actually not been hit by dipshit crosstraffic running long-red lights because I do this. More than once. The last time was just this last month.

Damn, Jester, tell 'em how you really feel... then when you get done come up here to Ohio and say it again.
I've driven in Ohio. Amusing, but doesn't even make my list for some of the more entertaining places to drive. Even though I managed to get my truck stuck in a ditch there. No, really.

And when DON'T I tell 'em how I really feel?

Point #1: Have you ever been to Montreal?
So far, I have never been allowed into Canada. And French Canadians probably have a wanted poster with my face on it.

A lot of their traffic lights are set up side-by-side, rather than one-above-the-other. In other words, no light is at the top, and no light is at the bottom. How are the colour-blind supposed to know which is which?
As has been noted, horizontal lights are just the same as vertical lights, in that the lights are in the same order, period. Right is at the top/on the left, green is at the bottom/on the right. We have no horizontal stop lights in Key West, so I didn't even think about them, but regardless, the colorblind know what's what. (Or should, anyway. No doubt there are idiot colorblind drivers, too.)

On occasion, I've seen weigh station...there are some cases where green means stop.
None of these people were professional truck drivers. Overall, my experience with pro truck drivers is that they know what the fuck they're doing, with very few exceptions. (The asshole that almost ran my car into a ditch in the center of I-10 on the way to Tucson is a very notable exception. Fucker.)

I do this out of habit, just as part of the way I drive. I am a very alert driver to what is going on around me, in all directions.

      In other words, hush.

Dammit, now you've inspired me to make a post on Roadkill regarding a recent experience involving both light-runners AND a guy trying to "jump the lights" by checking the timing before he crossed. Will do so this evening if I'm sufficiently conscious. (no injuries tho, thank goodness...it was just odd and stupid, not flashy)

When I get back from my beercation (or possibly during a down time during it), I should repost my story about the guy who jumped the light in NYC...who will probably never do it again. All because of me. Well, me and his idiocy.

I actually am frightened of talking on the phone. Go figure. Part of my general anxiety disorder, blended with hearing loss and shyness. (I'm less shy online.)
Same here. I would rather deal with people either in person or online. I HATE phones (texting excepted), and not just because I once had a phone-pervert scare the shit outta me when I was about 14. (Helpful hint, parents: teach your kids proper sex-ed so they won't get fooled by scumbag pervs that pose as doctors informing them of a supposed "mandatory exam"!)

Although, phones do offer one advantage: getting rid of nuisances is a lot easier.

We don't, I promise (well, not yet... I haven't mastered photoshop). That said, you've been invited :P
