  • We are a business, not a charity

If you fall on hard times, I can maybe work with you. For instance, a room is $55 but you only have $45 in your wallet? I can work with that (if you ask nicely, of course). We are not a charity, though, so you need to give me something. There are a literally dozens of charities in town to help with emergency housing. We aren't one of them. That being said...

SC calls around 12:30pm yesterday (checkout was at noon) saying she wanted someone to pay for her room. We tell her we'd need a 3rd party credit card authorization filled out and faxed back to us. She says she'll call back...

Around 2:30pm, CW tells her she needs to pay or leave. CW had tried to contact her earlier, but the phone was busy. SC said that her friend was coming to pick her up.

Other MOD went out to work on the pool pump around 3:10pm, and saw SC wiping down the furniture with our towels and writing a note (below). Other MOD told ACW (because by now it was second shift and CW was gone) to call her and tell her she needed to pay now or else.

SC called and bitched at ACW. She went into the office and threw her key and the note at ACW and stormed away.

The note says (copied exactly as it was written):
I completely understand how a front desk is run -- I know you needed pmt by 3 you told me how many times? I do not expect you to understand what I've been thru in last 48 hours But w/your job comes some common sense When someone local checks in clearly eye makeup smeared from crying -- Bringing in 2 big boxes & a dresser you could gather shes having a tough time! With that being said...common courtesy is expected it was out of my control I'm sorry but to accuse me
Yes, the letter cuts off. So I don't know what she thinks we were accusing her of. Unless she meant "excuse me?".

Sorry, but we're a business. We offer services in exchange for money. As stated, we can be generous and bend the rules sometimes, but we don't just offer handouts for free. We've had charities come and pay for housing for guests, and we'll often give them a discount, but we still don't give rooms away for nothing. It is not "common courtesy" to give freebies out to whoever wants them.

Other MOD put SC on our "preferred guest" list after this incident.

She was wiping down the room's furniture. And I'm not sure I want to know why.

wow, so she's going through a rough patch. big deal; who hasn't? to use it as an excuse to duck an obligation is bs; pay up or get a police escort for theft of services, pure and simple (at least it is to those of use who understand the concept).

wahh, my life sucks, you should give me freebies eleventyyouowemecosimspeshullikethat.

Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)
