  • Do You WANT This to be YOUR CAR? >:)

Hah. This is precious. I'm still laughing. I'll probably have an update tomorrow for this but I sure as hell hope this makes someone smile because I'm still raging over it.

We have a repeat offender. White Jeep Grand Cherokee. There's a picture from the security cam that has the Jeep with the lights on and the door open. Says "Keep an Eye Out" under it in dark Sharpie letters. Okay, Mr. Manager, keeping an eye out. Well then, guess who's on pump one? Mr. White Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Lights On and the Door Open. I walk outside toward that pump. Kid panicks. Hangs up the pump and walks in to pay for his 5.06 in gas. I walk around the pump without pausing and I memorize the license plate number (I'm so good at this I can just walk around a car, no pause, nothing. Smooth operator.) So I walk in after the kid. I take the picture of the car down and write the information down on it.

Note: The picture is black and white, grainy, and at least six feet from the eyes of any customer. The Jeep on it is about the size of a half dollar. You have to look at it pretty close to see it's a Jeep Grand Cherokee but to gas station workers who see cars all day, we know.

Kid pays and leaves. Half an hour later HIS MOTHER calls. She starts railing CW about some alleged picture we took of HER car's license plate number. There is no such picture. I don't NEED a picture to remember a plate number, lady. THEN she asks us why there is a picture of HER CAR behind the registers.

Ahem...excuse me? First off, the kid had to have ASSUMED that he was caught and it was a picture of HIS MOTHER'S CAR to have said that. (THERE IS NO WAY HE COULD HAVE SEEN THE PICTURE UP CLOSE ENOUGH TO SEE IT.) And...if it IS her car. If she's SURE that THAT JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE is HER CAR. Well Ma'am...you owe us 74 dollars from the last drive off. Merry Christmas.

She's supposedly going to call my manager to ask him about it. Guess who's going to be there tomorrow morning as well? Good luck, sweetheart. I'm onto you.

Oh how I wish we could catch our drive-offs like that. Really. I'm not QUITE that good with plates, and the pumps face in such a way that the cars are parallel with the store as far as direction. The only cameras we have are inside the store. Yeah. Tell me we aren't setting ourselves up for drive-offs! Also, I'd pay to see the look on that lady's face when the manager delivers the good news to her! Ha!

No problem, ma'am. Let's just call the local police station and clear this right up.

Update everybody! The lady called and my manager calmly explained that we did not take a picture of her license plate (where the hell did she get that idea?) And that he has constant video.surveillance. There would be no need for a picture. She was so Hung up on this idea that she told him to watch the footage and then call her back and "tell me there's a camera in her hand." which would have been my hand. He said, "Ma'am, it doesn't work that way." Our operations supervisor is going to tell her to provide proof I did what she says I did or tell her to darken someone else's doorstep. Everyone knows it's her car that stole gas before but we can't do much because he paid THAT TIME. Pwecious little timmy and his mother are probably gonna end up permabanned.

Don't worry folks. She's not getting anything out of this one. Our supervisor has the whole story and Damn if he doesn't hate liars.

Good for you and the manager.

Ya know, this isn't the type of situation where you get all twitchy about someone possibly having a picture of your vehicle/license plate in the store. If it is, it's probably there for a god damned good reason. Oh, let's see....your stupid kid stole gas last time he was here!

What next, a thread where a customer goes apeshit that there's footage of their face in a store that...........wait for it, they were seen stealing the week before!

You know, this lady is pitching a fit over what amounts to jack squat. Here in IA, a kid stole gas, then proceeded to run from the police at 100mph, crash, kill one person in his car, critically injure two others, and walk away with scrapes and bruises somehow. Does she WANT that to be pwecious Timmy? Really?

                      Good for him!

Stores have the right to protect against theft. If it had me, I would have calmly explained, "You've got the wrong car, but I understand your concerns."

Since the wicked flee where no man pursueth, odds are I'd be believed.
