I got lucky selling cigarettes. Everyone, when I worked at the pharmacy, was very straightforward about which ones they wanted. It made picking out underage kids easy as hell. Those who have been smoking for ages would come in and ask for the specific ones they wanted. The underage kids who never buy them would walk in and say, "Can I have a pack of cigarettes?" Now that I think about it, same applied for beer. People who drink ask for a specific beer. Underage kids would say, "Can I have a beer?"

On another note, I didn't know Newports had non-menthold cigs.

I realize that the answer here will, most likely, boil down to "personal preference", but can someone explain to me (a non-smoker) what the big deal is when it comes to fliptops vs softpacks? For these purposes, assume that each contains the exact same amount of the exact same product and costs the same. I have known people to go batshit insane over this distinction, and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why...
For myself, when I smoked, it was because soft packs are not able to close and so you end up with loose tobacco and broken or squished cigarettes in the bottom of your purse. I also knew people who thought a soft pack was empty and would crush it just to feel the unmistakable pop of the butt breaking off.

So for me it was hardpacks all the way. But I also never threw a fit if they were out. I'd just get the soft and transfer them to an old hard pack.

        Also those stupid non-menthol Newports.

Even nonsmokers who sell cigarettes know what brands are what.
My problem was that they kept rearranging the case on me. Every time I learned where anything other than them absolutely most popular cigarettes were, they moved it on me

I can relate to people not being specific. One year, I was a crib attendant for an intro to machine shop class. Everyone was making the same project, which had one tapped hole (1/2-20 UNF). In an attempt to teach students to be specific about what they asked for, when they came in and asked for "a tap", I'd hand them a 1/4-20 UNC (would drop right through the pilot hole - not screw up their project). If they asked for a 1/2" tap, I'd bring out both the 1/2-13 UNC and 1/2-20 UNF, and tell them that one was the right tap, and the other was completely wrong and would ruin the part they were tapping - come back after you've checked your project sheet to find out WHICH 1/2" tap you need.

They're called Newport Reds (because of the red box) and we just got them recently as well. Very popular, because they are temporarily (intro thing y'know) cheaper than the menthol variety.

They're new and my store doesn't sell them (yet?) but I get a couple people a week asking for them.
