This guy.....
Okay, one tidbit of BG: I left my job last summer and only recently returned to it this spring. During my hiatus, this certain SC began coming by on a regular basis in the drive thru.
From what my CW's have told me, he always demands to know who is working the bar, because "only *names* make my drink right!" He's never friendly and always finds a reason to bitch about his drink. He always, without fail, orders a large iced espresso with a half shot of dark chocolate.
One other bit of BG: we USED to make the iced espressos in their corresponding cup size. No more. Now every iced espresso goes into a small cup, just as their hot counterparts do. Otherwise it becomes an iced americano.
That being said...
Two weeks ago:
Asshole comes through drive thru, I take his order--the standard. This is the first time I've encountered him.
So I make his large iced espresso in a small cup, stir the chocolate in, take his money and hand it out via his wife, who was driving.
I walk away to make some other drinks for in-house. After I make those, I got that feeling...you know, of being watched. /shudder
I turn around, and there's Asshole, holding his drink up with this look on his face--a look that said "WTF?!?"
Here we go, I thought, opening the window.
Me: Yes? *smile*
SC: I ORDERED A LARGE!!!!
Me: That is a large---
SC: *cuts me off* THIS IS A SMALL CUP! I ORDERED A LAAAAAAAARGE!!!!
Me: That is a large iced espresso, its just in a small cup. All iced espressos come in a small cup, no matter what size. I can assure you the correct amount of chocolate and espresso is in there, it's just a difference of how much ice.
SC: WELL I DIDN'T KNOWWWWW THAT! I WANT A LARGE CUP! AND THE CHOCOLATE ISN'T EVEN STIRRED IN!!!!!!!
Me: Ok, I can remake it for you. And if you want to continue getting the large cup, just to prevent any confusion, just order an iced americano from now on--it's the same as what you want, and the price is the same.
I took his drink and shut the window before he could comprehend my answer and think of a response. I made the drink, taking a full thirty seconds to stir in his god damn chocolate, and handed it out to him. They drove off in a huff. Sure, it wasn't the best way for me to handle it, but fuck him and his self-righteous behavior. We are NOT allowed to change standard of practice. Period.
TODAY:
Asshole comes through drive thru, my coworker, who has only been with us for three weeks, took the order. And what did Asshole order? A large iced ESPRESSO with a half shot of dark chocolate. I gritted my teeth, knowing what was coming.
CW made the drink, asking me if all iced espressos came in small cups. With a devious feeling, I said, "Yup! They sure do!"
Here's where I failed---I meant to hand out the drink to have the same conversation with Asshole, but another customer came inside and immediately began ordering (I really hate that). So CW handed out the drink. Here's how it went, from what he told me:
CW: *goes to trade the drink for money* Here you are--
SC: WHAT IS THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?
CW: Your iced espresso.
SC: I ORDERED A LARGE!!!!
CW: Right, all the iced espressos come in small cups.
SC: YOU GUYS ARE ALWAYS GIVING ME DIFFERENT SIZES, I WANT A LARGE, I WANT IT IN A LARGE CUP!!!! I'M SO TIRED OF THIS BULLSHIT!!!!!
CW: *shocked, but holding his own* Oh, I'm sorry sir, but they should all be making them in a small cup, as that's what our recipe calls for.
They went back and forth a bit more, I think. IT finally ended with Asshole refusing to pay, and CW gave him the drink for free--in the small cup.
This bastard needs to be dealt with across the board---I'm going to talk to my asst. manager tomorrow, and tell her to make SURE that EVERYONE is making his drink in a small cup, the way it's supposed to be made. If he wants it in a large cup, he can damn well ask.
