  • Attempted scammer FAIL?

I see s SC walk up to my register while I had stepped away for a second. I go over and see some bills and change on the counter, the SC is holding a few items, slowly walking away.

M: sir, did you want to pay for something?
SC: *begins to walk back* yeah, it's $3.72
M: *looks at money SC left, and sees it is over $5* sir, i need you to come over to the register so I can ring you up.
SC: *sigh* fine! *the SC walks closer, but still 8-10 feet away*
M: Sir, I need to see the items you have at counter to ring you up.
SC: FINE! sheesh, some service you provide!

I get the SC over and ring up all his items. It actually comes to $2.93, but he has almost $6 on the counter.

M: *counts pile* Out of $5.23?
    SC: No. Only $3.

I pull $3 out of his pile of money on the counter, and enter it in the register and give him his 7 cents back with the receipt. This is when the SC crumples the receipt, throws it on the floor and slides the remainder of the money toward the register.

    M: Sir, that is yours.
SC: I'm in here every day, i always leave it for you to give to someone else who may be short. *I've never seen the SC before, neither have my CWs*
M: I'm not going to hold it here. It is not my money. It is you money, please take it with you.
    SC: Fine!

The Sc takes the money in his hand, walks a few steps, quickly turns around and shoves the money across the counter towards the shelf with the receipt printer on it.

M: sir, I said i'm not holding your money for you. *pushes money back to customer side* Take your money an do not reach across my counter.
SC: Fine! *grabs money* I'm a paying CUSTOMER, GOT IT CUSTOMER and am not happy.

They stomp off and I tell MOD about the incident who agrees I did the right thing. They also notify LP.

I'm almost positive the SC would have said I stole money from them if I kept it. I have had customers not want a few pennies in change, but when I stated my reason the realized my position and took the change.

What a meathead...good for you for not letting him guilt you into keeping the money.

oooh, that's a new one to me. I'll keep that in mind. His scam *might* have worked if he could muster up a little charm and friendliness.

        That's.....odd.

I don't know what you sell. One thing I wondered was whether you sell anything someone might be embarrassed buying and it was a weird attempt to semi-honestly steal something. Particularly considering the reluctance to come up close to be rung up. He might have pocketed something he was too embarrassed to have rung up and then attempted to leave enough money to cover it. Then because he was so worried about being caught out he got defensive and decides it's bad customer service.

Check your shelves for missing condoms, cream for embarrassing itches, etc. Though what people find embarrassing varies, maybe something traditionally feminine. I even once knew a women who found buying cheese embarrassing ( she was from an Indian background and very unfamiliar with european foods but I'm not sure that really explains it).

People are strange, we have a charity jar at the reg, I would have just dropped it in there. I also loath the people who get. One penny back and make a point to let me know they are tipping me. Lol, I did get a dollar the other day since the guy gave me to much and I gave it back. But seriously, putting every penny "im tipped" gonna get my fired, exceptions made from lottery if I had back all winnings close drawer and they make several attempts to give it to us we can accept it
          Otherwise, charity funds, sucks sometimes
I'm sorry reading is not a new concept it has been widely taught in our nation for at least the past 100 years. Please, learn to do it CORRECTLY before you become contagious.

All he had was a few bagels form our bakery, a small package of candy and a package of chap stick. even if you tacked on the cheapest condoms, or other sensitive stuff it wouldn't have been enough to cover it.
