There's a very easy solution to "shit he don't need" and that is to not use it. My Nano has a screen and can do video, but I don't use it for video because *gasp* I'm not using what I don't need.

What I think this guy wanted was a cheap, low-end MP3 player, only having a one-line digital display or similar, with 8 GB of memory.

Which he certainly isn't going to find anyplace in town. Heck, I question if such a thing exists without a screen for video.

I think I have one of those...

Whoops, I'm wrong. mine is also 4GB. I also don't really recommend it as it has several problems (including the battery life!) but it was cheap and I got what I paid for while I wait for my "nice" MP3 that I lost to turn up in a box somewhere *fingerscrossed*

Yeah, the Shuffle's about the only mp3 player I can think of with no screen to speak of whatsoever, but Irv already said it wouldn't meet his needs (I assume because it doesn't seem to come in "6-8 GB" size). My Shuffle's battery life is awesome, though. It's a few years old and I'm still getting the roughly 14 hours of playtime out of it that Apple said it got.

The guy in the OP makes me think of those people who bug me because they seem to think that cheap, off-the-rack headphones are supposed to be able to drown out surrounding noise, and thus crank their music up to the point where I can hear the lyrics perfectly clearly. You want noise-cancellation? Get the special headphones for it, and do us all a favor and don't use those while driving/biking.

I can get his desire not to get a screen - I wouldn't care for one with a screen either.

Of course, I wouldn't be sucky about it, either. I'd ask if something like what I wanted was available, and if not, I'd either go elsewhere, or decide whether having an MP3 player was enough of a necessity to overlook the screen.

          So far, it hasn't been.

I have a couple of really old, very low capacity MP3 players without "all that shit"...I'd sell them to him for $20 each...since they're worth less than nothing I'd be making out like a bandit and he'd think he'd hit the motherlode

When it comes to helping me at the store, there's only one thing I care about, and it ain't gender...It's "I want help from someone who knows MORE about this product than I do, and is capable of conveying that knowledge on my level (whether it's my actual level - Computer Geek, or the level of most people I know - 'Smart enough to know where the Any Key is'". Plain and simple ^_^

I generally don't ask for help in the computer section, unless it's to find something very very specific such as a cable that terminates in X on one and and Y on the other. But audio/video? Some things, I need help with. Cars? Hell yeah, I need help. "Sporting" equipment? Just tell me what to get and I'll take yer word for it. x.x

There used to be one that took SD cards. And there are now 8 gb sd cards.... so in theory that could work.

Still, the guy was a bit of an idiot.
I have one of those. Its a huge thing (about the size of a cassette tape) and still has a screen. It also would only recognise 2gb maximum size for cards.

I've a Sansa Clip+ 8GB - does everything you want it to & nothing the Luser doesn't.A small screen shows name etc, but that's all - no video

The battery life is good too, 8 hours minimum at a guess.

I used to have one of these as well. Mine was about the size of a mini cassette. And it also only recognized 2 gigs.

I love my 8 gig Sansa Fuze - granted it HAS a screen but I only use it for music, and it turns the screen off to save battery life if you aren't actively selecting something or using it to watch video. I get about 12 hours out of it.

Oh, but it has a built-in microphone to record stuff and can double as a flash drive. He doesn't need that shit.
