My mom says the difference between natural and lab-created stones is God-made vs. man-made. I prefer natural.

I have lab created emeralds, and natural mined emeralds. I like them both equally. Love the lab created ones because they look great in the emerald cut. At the time, they were also cheaper than the natural ones. (I think. I havent bought any jewelry for about 10yrs)

I'm just mad that I cant wear my rings any more. Health problems caused by MS have made my fingers numb and it's too uncomfortable to wear my rings any more. Sad about that. I really want to wear my emeralds. Maybe someday I'll have a jeweler make me a nice pendant out of a couple of my rings with my favorite stones. Then I could wear them again.

Funnily enough I have a similar problem and I've just started wearing them on a really strong chain as a pendant. I'm still scared the chain will break and I'll lose them though.

I actually have a vaguely similar plan for my engagement and wedding rings in another fifteen years or so. I can't currently wear my engagement ring because for some reason it's started irritating the skin on my finger, despite the fact that it's (supposedly) all white gold, just like my band, which doesn't bother my skin. I suspect moisture or dirt or something is collecting inside the ring when I wear it and causing the irritation, since the engagement ring has a hollow space while the band is solid. So my plan is to eventually have the two rings made into one "anniversary" ring with the stones and the like in it.

Here's another vote for seeing a picture of said ring.

I can't believe that she actually accused you of stealing to pay for a ring though. Oh wait.... yea I can. Why can't people mind their own business though? I constantly get to deal with people who tell me that my fiance is cheap because I have an emerald ring instead of diamond one. Nevermind that I really don't like diamonds. I tend to do what you did and ignore the questions/statements.
My engagement ring has a diamond, but it's not the one my husband wanted to get(and we're saving for). The engagement ring was about $60, and he wanted me to have something to wear when he went off to boot camp.

The ring we're saving for has a ruby stone, and compliments our wedding bands. Let's just leave it at the ruby ring costs more than $60.

Diamonds, imho, are dull and everyone has them. Colored gems are more interesting and unique, and sometimes more expensive. A perfect ruby can cost more than a perfect diamond of the same carat weight.
Shamus: Why hasn't anybody designs a cranium-anus extraction kit yet? It seems that so many people suffer from a improperly-stored head.

When I first started buying rings, I wore them on a chain while I was working. Worked in a McD's and after breaking two of the rings by either catching one on something, or accidentally whacking a ring and popping out a sapphire, I quit wearing them on my fingers at work. I found the sapphire that popped out of the ring. The stone wasnt damaged, the setting was, so I had to have the ring repaired.

I wish I could still wear my rings on my fingers tho. Another problem is that the meds I was taking for some symptoms of my health problem made me either gain weight, or made my fingers and toes (and sometimes the rest of my body) swell up with edema. Got rid of the meds and the edema went away, but my fingers are still numb. Sucks.

If I get the money someday, I'm going to have at least one or two of my rings made into pendants.

I can think of one stone where lab-created vs natural makes a huge difference: opal.

Lab-created opal looks cool but it's very obviously not natural stone, and I think the natural has prettier colorplay (less chunky blocks of color and sparkle; more equal distribution throughout the stone; more variety). Given the choice and ability I would ALWAYS pick natural opal over lab-created. Maybe in the future they'll figure out a way to make better imitations.

The woman in the OP is a twat. O_O I'm glad I've never met her. XD
