  • sc wants to come to presentation and not pay for parking

So I get this phone call today at the library.

SC: For the handicap the event at the library today, where do they park?
me:....are you saying the event is for the handicapped or where do the handicap park?
SC: where do the handicap park?
    me: the entrance is...etc.
SC: do the handicap pay for parking?
me: yes, parking is $2 an hour
    sc: the handicap have pay?
    me: yes.
sc: well, does the spearker have to pay?
me: the person who we invite to speak doesn't have to pay for parking (I'm assuming the ass was going to take my plain "no" and say at the gate that he was told he was told he didnt' have pay.)
sc: you didn't answer me. Do the people who come in for the event have to pay?
me: yes, people who come in have to pay parking.
sc: you are giving me the run around. I want to talk to your supervisor.

So I try to find a super but he hangs up. Sounds like he just called back ten min. after hanging up and got a cw.

A lot of people are calling about this event. one woman called asking what does the event with the author constitutes.

OK, this idiot asked if the speaker pays for parking and then says you didn't answer his question of whether the people coming in to hear him have to pay? Brain hurts.

When he called back and got my cw, I didn't hear the whole conversation but it seemed long. CW did mention that he can park on the street for free after 6pm.

I wanted to aske him, why does it matter that the speaker parks for free, since he isn't the speaker? Also, I doubt the speaker, who happens to be an author who wrote a series of books, where the first movie had the woman from the American version of Ugly Betty in it, was driving in. I imagine we got her a hotel room and someone to drive her around, etc.

Oh, and the caller sounded like a cranky old man.

if you want to know who the speaker/author is, please pm me or at least don't mention her by name her. Our PR googles our library and events a lot to see what people say about us, and I don't want her to find me bad mouthing our customers.

I found out more about the guy who was handicapped and didn't want to pay for parking.

This morning we had the pain-in-the-ass friday morning meeting with all the staff that deals with the public. It's a pain in the ass because I rather do other things, and things we talk about in the meeting gets emailed to us anyway.

Anyway, my cw who talked to this sc yesterday related that the man wanted to know if there was any free parking. Now there is free parking for certain veterans, like one with Purple Hearts, or were POWs; but such vets get special plates so it's easy to verify. Cw coudln't remember the exact details so she told the guy "no free parking". He also asked if there will be free food at he event, and he asked which of the local libraries were the "swell libraries."

He also called back and got another cw, who got the same type of questions about free parking.

The chief of this library said, "he is a person who touched many lives."

I hope that library chief was being sarcastic, when the chief meant to say, "he has PUNCHED many lives."

So now do you have to screen guests asking if they have touched many lives in order to get free parking? Eventually when those type of people add up, the library loses money, and the chief will be to blame...

I didn't realize that answering all of an SCs questions was now considered "giving the run-around."

It's only the runaround if you're not giving him the answer he WANTS

So he's upset that he is being treated equally to everyone else?

I mean it's not like you're ONLY charging handicapped parking, you're charging EVERYONE who parks in the lot. So even the ADA won't really help him since it's accessible to him. He just didn't like the price tag.

Sounds like he may be in the early stages of dementia. Or he's always been a jerk.
