  • I Still Need to See Your ID....

I work in retail. I actually like working in retail because of great benefits, and good management. Most of the time, I have nice customers, but sometimes the SC"s too.
    I'll never forget this SC.

    Me:
    SC: ID B*tch
    M: Nice manager

SC comes to my register with a bottle of vodka. She looks under the age of 21, so I did what I must.

    Me: Hi, how are you?
    SC: I'm alright.
Me: may I see your ID for the Vodka?
    SC: my birthday is XX-XX-XXXX.
Me: I'm sorry, but I still need to see your ID.
SC: why? I told you my Birthday Already.
Me: You're Birthday is not enough Proof for you to be 21. I need to See a valid ID before I sell this to you.
    SC: I'll be back.

SC stomps off out of the store and she returns 30 minutes later with an ID. However as soon as she hands me an ID, 3 red Flags just went into my head as I looked at her ID. 1. The ID is expired, 2. The ID is clipped, 3. Her picture doesn't match. This means that her ID is not Valid.

Me: Mam. I cannot except this ID.
    SC:Why?
Me: * I explained her the state laws and why I couldn't take her ID.*
    SC: That's Bullsh*t..
    Me: I"m Sorry.
    SC: what's your name?
    Me: * gives name*
SC: I'm gonna report you to the manager for not selling me this.
Me: Ok, and why you're there, tell her that I did a wonderful job for carding you.
SC: *Stomps Off out of the store*

As soon as the SC left the store, I went to my manager to explain of what just happened.

M: don't worry about it, you did the right thing to protect your job.
    Me: thanks
M: Even if she does complain, the Law is on your side.

It turns out, that SC never complained.

I was just at Wal-Mart and they have a sign at the registers saying if you look under 40 you need to provide ID.

Yay, that means I get carded at Wallyworld. I don't get carded at the grocery store.

I went to the liquor store on Saturday. I took my wallet (instead of just my debit card) cause I know I don't look 24. And the lady asked for my id. I happily gave it to her. But then I'm not a SC.

I agree. Many People that i've carded take it as a compliment rather that an insult about their age.

Okay, here we go again. Yes, yet another flimsy excuse for me to break out my silly little ditty. Sing along with me, kids:

              THE ID SONG

[to the tune of "If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands]

"If you order alcohol, show ID.
If you want me to serve you booze, let me see.
If you want to get a drink
Then folks you have to think
That if you look that young you'll need your damn ID!

If you're legal and you're thirsty, show some proof.
If you left your home without it you're a goof.
If you're legal and you know it
and you want a drink, then show it.
Cause the only way you're drinking is with proof!

If you’re under 21, then stay outside.
If your friends are buying booze, you’d better hide.
If your legal friends are buying,
And you don’t wanna see ‘em crying,
Stay away or you will see the sale denied!

If you want some smokes or booze then here's the thing:
Having kids, tattoos or grey hairs just won't swing.
Because the laws are really clear
And fines and jail time I do fear.
And for all I know this all could be a sting.

If you're buying this from me, I'll need ID.
If you're of age and you have it with you, let me see.
If you want to drink or smoke
Then my friend it's not a joke

Without ID you won't get a fucking thing from me!"

That should be on a plaque and mounted at every cash register where they sell booze or smokes.

Hah. I'm 41. It's only in the last couple of years that I stopped getting carded on a very regular basis. I LOVE getting carded, whether they think I'm too young or just under 40. Makes my day.

Then again, I'm a pretty weird person.

It's as old on this site as GK fangirls. Possibly older. Although the last two verses are relatively new, and the third verse isn't that old, the original form of the song (the first two verses) literally dates back several years. I have no idea when I penned it, but it's been around a long, long time.

Oh, and thank you, by the way.

I also am 41, and also love getting carded, though it's happening less and less.

Although, during my Beercation, which was just a month or so before my 41st birthday, I did get carded once in Fort Lauderdale. My friend Little Red, who is all of 29, did not get carded a single time.

                          Yeah, she hates me.

I also got carded three times last September, and once in January, though I don't count that last one, as it was at an airport bar, and right after carding me, the bartender carded the guy next to me, who looked like Sam freakin' Elliott.

I don't get carded anymore makes me a bit sad sometimes. But I have never objected.

years ago I got carded at a pub by the doorman. I thought it was amusing as we had gone to school together and were the same age, but the policy at that particular pub was to card everyone regardless of how old they looked.

Oh and Jester, I love your song!!! Now I cant stop thinking about the version in the Simpsons where Rev. Lovejoy's wife sings - "if your happy and you know it, it's a sin"
"When did you get a gold plated toilet?"
"We don't have a gold plated toilet"
"Oh dear, I think I just peed in your Tuba"

I've worked for an "ID Everybody" even employees. Coworkers would not come to my line, because I followed that to the letter. Everybody had to have ID, no exception.
