But...I think I like being this way.

Some guy was uber rude about his cigarettes so I smartmouthed him a little bit too loud and called him rude so everyone in the store stared at him when he walked out. That was really the only thing I did that I felt the slightest bit badly about...the rest of this I feel was completely and utterly deserved.

I Saw What You Did There

Some guy spit on the floor. In front of us. Saw us watching him. Said nothing, did nothing, just paid. While he was still in the store I made sure he saw me put a "Wet Floor" sign over his spit.

    Ring Ring--No.

Some scam keeps trying to contact my CW Georgia because they somehow got her information and they're the type of scam that threatens you and tries to scare you into paying some "debt" that you don't owe. It's so obviously a scam it's scary that people actually believe this stuff. The number is based out of Texas, the operator is an Indian lady, and they threaten EVERYONE with the police. This has been going on for months now and Georgia has already contacted the police about it but they can't do anything because the number is in Texas and you can't call it back. I'm thinking of directing her to the FBI since this would be a federal matter (across state lines) and they'd have a better idea of how to handle it.

So I pick up the phone and do the spiel and it's an Indian lady looking for Georgia. My manager and Georgia both have explained that when they call it's always an Indian lady and we should never take it seriously. Just ask what the call is regarding and if they tell us that they're pursuing her on criminal charges for blah blah blah just hang up. Well it's not that easy because they continuously call back. Well you know what happens when you call back a million times? You make Gaki mad. You know what happens when you make Gaki mad? Gaki makes you mad and Gaki is REALLY REALLY REALLY good at making you mad. So here's how it went:

    Me: *spiel*
Indian Lady: Hello I'm looking to speak with Georgia.
Me: Just a sec. *rings out at least three customers before coming back to the phone.* Can I ask what this is regarding?
IL: Oh yes, you may certainly, we are pursuing criminal charges against Georgia for--
    Me: *click*

    Ring Ring

IL: *irritated* I'd like to speak to your manager.
    Me: *click*

    Ring Ring

IL: Do not hang up! I want to speak to your manager now!
    Me: No. *click.*

    Ring Ring

IL: Do not hang up on me again! You are going to be prosecuted by the police! The police will come for you! What is your name?! I want your manager now! I want your name and your manager!
Me: .....................*snap* Look, Lady, you aren't getting my name, you aren't getting a manager, and you aren't talking to Georgia, you WILL be leaving her alone, you WILL never call this line again, and you WILL not be speaking to anyone other than me today and I WILL not be taking any of your bullshit.
IL: *incoherent yelling and screaming about the police and how they're going to get me.*
    Me: *click*

The phone rang SIX TIMES after that and for the first five I just immediately picked up the phone and put it right back down. For the sixth I said our spiel in a sickly sweet voice as if nothing had ever happened and she was STILL screaming about the police. After I hung up on that one she didn't call back.

They'll be back eventually. If I'm there I'm thinking of telling them she moved and goes by her middle name now:

Jenny at 867 5309. (*sings* Jeeeeeennnny I've got your numbuh, IIIIII'm gonna make you miiiine!)

I hadn't felt so alive in ages. I felt like the biggest bitch in the whole world and you know what? I kinda liked it.

    Sure I Do

SC: Do you know where the closest ATM is? Because yours is broken and you won't fix it.
Me: .................................................. ...................................right. There's another C-store up the road that way.
SC: Do they charge a surcharge?
Me: I don't know, I don't go there. I've never been, since I work at a C-store. Why would I go to one up the street?
    SC: Uh...*leaves in a huff*

I think my motivation to help her left my body at about the point where she told me that I should be fixing the ATM. F*** You, Woman. Oh yeah and the best thing was that I do know if they charge a surcharge or not.

    They do.

You should totally do this. Or have another coworker or your manager do this. It would take care of the problem rather nicely.

Oh yes. I know of you. Hold on. Let me get the checklist the FBI left us. Ok. I'll need the following information, your name, company name, company address, A valid phone number, and the name of the owner or CEO of your company, Let's start with your name.

(Of course you're unlikely to have to say much beyond FBI, but hey, maybe she'd give it to you. - If so, just tell her you will give the information to the FBI and she'll hopefully hear from them soon. Then have Georgia do so!)

Just wanted to let you know Gaki, you are my hero.

You handled that better then I would have. I'm really easy to fluster when I'm answering the phones. Though my drugstore has some really shitty customers that like to yell at me for shit out of my control (like when I get overflow pharmacy calls cause it's only the pharmacist at 10:15am on a Sunday morning. ).

You can't get them at the number that displays because that number is spoofed. It's likely that they aren't even in the country.

Have you tried reporting the harassing calls to the phone company? Keep a log of what times they come in and let them know that you'd like to not only block that number from calling your store, but if they can pass the information about where it's coming from on to the police, you want to go after them if at all possible.

The correct agency to call is the Federal Trade Commission. They have very strict rules on debt collection; they cannot threaten people with the police.

But if they are out of the country, there may not be much anyone can do. However, the scammers will probably give up eventually.

Gaki should so totally do the 867-5309 thing. It would be classic.

It's not even a real debtor. What they do is try scare tactics to get you to agree that you owe them money. If you do agree that you owe them money, they actually are free to collect money from you even though you don't actually owe them a dime.

My mother had them calling her at her work, and she's an ICU nurse.

                  Go, Gaki, go!

Before we were married, my husband was getting an insane amount of phone calls from something that claimed to be a college information service. He had signed up with them just after getting out of the Army, they were no help, and he wound up getting things together all on his own. They started calling SEVERAL times a day, every day. At first, Mr. Redhead was very polite and explained that he was currently enrolled in classes and was no longer in need of their services. When the calls didn't stop, he began to (politely) ask that his number be removed from their call list. Each person he talked to told him that he'd been removed, but each of them lied. It was getting to the point where he would answer the phone shouting explatives at the top of his voice... and still they called back an hour later. I told him to make me a list of all of the numbers they'd been calling from (there were four or five) and I would talk to our cell provider about getting them blocked. I was looking at the list, and, on a whim, I called one of the numbers. A guy answered and sounded a little bit confused to be receiving an incoming call. I asked for the full legal name of his company, and the name, address, and fax number of the company's lawyer. He nearly choked, I could hear him. He asked why I needed that and I told him that Mr. Redhead had asked to be removed from their call list REPEATEDLY and was still receiving several calls each and every day and that we would be filing a harrassment suit. I don't think we've heard from them since.

See, you can stop her right there: If this was a legit collection agency, she would never tell you what she was calling about because the law says she can't talk to anyone but the debtor about it. It's also illegal for her to contact a debtor at their place of employment once they are told not to do it. I know that this is a scam agency, but throwing these facts in her face might help to scare her off.

If not, you can also tell her you have caller ID (whether you do or not, how will she know?) and that you're reporting her to the Federal Trade Commission.

FYI for anybody who is being harassed by collectors:
