I had something similar but not with the mould patterns.

My cat decided that my CD wallet was a litter tray and weed on it. Completely wrecked two of my CDs.

an ex roomies cat got into a dominance deal with one of my cats. He sprayed down my laptop. Got a new laptop out of the deal but I would rather have not needed one

That's actually really rather pretty. It's a very ... ornate pattern.

Is it weird that I apparently find mold pretty?
Undoubtedly, someone will manage to express that fungal pattern with fractals.

(And I want credit in the footnotes if it turns out I thought of it first.)

Afraid so. I have no idea how common it is, but it DOES exist.

Ops - somehow I had dismissed as an urban legend. I'll hang my head in shame.
Anyway it is due to the customer's carelessness, which is definitely not supported

          It is actually quite pretty!
And... the pictures comes from the same country that e-mail came from. Conicidence?

Back in 1993, I developed an 8-pack of 4x5 Tri-X I'd found in my grandfather's old Speed Graphic. I had no idea what was on them, if anything at all. It turned out that three of the negatives contained literally priceless photos (they were from the 1963 bar mitzvah of my father's cousin Jay, who died two years later from leukemia) which the family were all very excited to see.

The other five were unexposed, and mostly blank. I say mostly, because some of them had that fungus pattern like what was on that CD. Like snowflakes. I wish I'd saved them, but at the time I wasn't particularly interested in accidental art.

(I have one more partly-exposed pack left. I've been trying to run one roll of film through each of my cameras, and the Speed Graphic is third in line. Five pics were used; I don't know if they were removed from the pack and developed 45 years ago, or if they are still in there to this day. Can't wait to find out...)

              nope, not according to mycologists.
Jebus. I've never heard of this either, but it makes sense from what I know of molds and fungi (worse better? than human beings at being annoying and being able to live any-fucking-where. There are things that live off of arsenic, alcohol, and in anaerobic environments. Kill it. Kill it with fire bleach.)
EDIT: I live in a relatively dry climate-- however, it does get rather hot... and a little chilly here. I'll have to ask Dad if he's ever heard of anything like this... and tell him. He used to live around the Finger Lakes in New York.

Reminds me of the time my dear departed car Kyo got angry at me....and promptly peed on my external hard drive while I was sitting right there at my desk. Sparks, smoke, and a cat went flying. He was such an evil, evil cat, lol.
