  • How about you back up my data for free

Because my computer won't be ready for two more days.

Apparently he thought we would actually do it because his computer estimate (5-7 days) was at the 5 day mark and would take 2 more days at least.

That's not even worth a laugh, just a small snort and a roll of the eyes.
cos yeah, right... like any of us are going to give out a $100+ service for free just because there's a couple of days delay on something? um no.

So he still would have been within the estimate period at day 7 (assuming that there wasn't a delay and that his computer was indeed finished after the 2 extra days), and yet he was demanding this expensive service because his computer wasn't ready at the earliest estimate given? Entitlement much?

exactly. but he really though that we'd do that for him. especially when he got all stern looking as if we'd fall for his mild intimidation plans.

seriously, i've been in the military. It's hard to coerce me like that.

In fact, I'm fairly sure you have a higher Intimidation than he does. <.<

Some people will try anything! I'd just be grateful that it's going to be done in the estimated time.

Actually, I can understand a discount if your over the time your estimated..... Of course for a established business it also makes sense to mainly rely on worst case estimates on time. That way, if you know your gonna be done in a day and tell him 5 and he doesn't mind..... when day 2 comes and his computer is ready he is happier than having to tell him something went wrong and it gonna take a few more days past a 1 day estimate. Under promise, over deliver, helps save some face when things go wrong.

I am guessing he was wanting a full backup and not hey, how about you pull a couple important files since I was an idiot and thought it would be done on day 5 and day 7 i have a deadline
I'm sorry reading is not a new concept it has been widely taught in our nation for at least the past 100 years. Please, learn to do it CORRECTLY before you become contagious.

SC's always think that any service to their computer should be free. He can get his data backed up for free.....if he does it himself!

In the UK, this is the difference between an Estimate & a Quote.
One is "it should be ready for, barring accidents, shortages etc." & "Yes, this is when it will be ready & this is how much it will cost".
An estimate is just that...merely an educated guess.
The Luser went with it, then you have a certain amount of "wiggle room".
