My wife's family is from central Illinois, but they still have a bit of a "southern" twang when they speak.. It's funny to see people reactions when asked if they are from the south, they say "Nope.. Illinois".... Seems that most people around here assume if you are from Illinois, you automatically have the Chicago type accent.

We had that accusation recently at work too.
LP guy was reported (by name) to corporate for racism because he asked a customer to show her receipt. and that he was only checking because of her race. ... except that LP checks EVERYONE who doesn't use the checkout lines. so the fact that he was a different ethnicity had no factor.
(although before it gets into a debate on whether or not they should ask at all... i personally questioned it but said nothing cos, as an employee i get checked more than customers anyway, and... the company policy just changed on that and they can't ask anymore.)

"Is it truth, sir, that you are talking in Australian?"'strewth cobber, you talkin' in strine?
strewth = 'it's the truth', or 'is it truth' depending on context.
cobber = sir, mate, any male
strine = Australian.
Drop the 'au' syllable, keep 'str', drop the 'al' syllable, and extend the 'ian' into 'ine'.
'Australian' thus becomes 'strine'.Seshat's self-help guide:
1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.
