Did all the schools suddenly get rid of lockers? I carried a heavy bookbag myself (but mine was full of paperbacks and D&D manuals), but I still used to drop books I didn't need in between classes where I passed my locker. Admittedly, they've built a new school since I was that age.

All the middle schools here got rid of their lockers. They were "making the kids late" to class because it would take them too long to get books in and out. Or they'd show up late and say "my locker was stuck" when they were really just chatting. Only the middle school my daughter goes to still has lockers, and they have a bizarre draconian policy about who actually gets one.

I had a cubby up till 5th grade. Then in middle school we had half lockers (top lockers were primo). In high school we had full size lockers. Though we were supposed to share with a friend, I think I only shared freshmen year. I didn't use my locker in high school all the time but it was helpful from time to time.
