I never understood what this meant either. I normally make the same amount of money each week, and therefore I budget what I can and cannot afford. Aren't all of us on a fixed income?
Yet what I always found interesting is that whenever a customer tells you this, they expect a "You need to feel sorry for me" discount or something. I pay the same amount everyone else pays for that item, and if I cannot afford it based on my income, then I don't need it.

Oh my, someone tried arguing that with me yesterday, because hot wings are expensive.
1) You knew the price before ordering
2) You don't >need< hot wings. Two breasts would be cheaper, and give more meat.
3) I'm not the cashier
I write the price on the container with a Sharpie, you take it up front
4) Shut up. I make minimum wage. THAT is a fixed income.

I had someone come up to my store, wanted the most powerful computer we made, and when I gave him the final price he gave me the "But I'm on a fixed income" crap.
Well buddy, the price of the computer was posted on the base unit, you wanted all the upgrades, that's the fragging price. Deal with it, select a cheaper model, or go bug my competitor down the road.

I completly understand.
I hate it when they call to complain, and pull the 'fixed income'. I just want to be like "if you can't bloody afford it, don't HAVE IT". Moreover, if your budget is so tight that when YOU miss paying a bill, you can't afford to even pay 5$ more on the next one, your in trouble!
I get alot of people who just don't pay there bill one month, call in angry that it rolled over on their next bill, then freak out because they can't afford to pay it.

I'd probably fall over laughing if someone pulled that line at my store.
Reason? I work in probably the most expensive grocery store in the entire metro area. I don't think we even accept food stamps (I may be wrong though).

Fixed income.
My number one pet peeve is people telling me something is "ridiculous" I hate that word with a passion because of retail. It is not ridiculous to have to wait in cue, the prices are not ridiculous, this is not ridiculous ARGH I hate that word... but not as much as I hate the sentance...
"But Im on a fixed income"
ARGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
holy
!!!
You and everyone else lady!!!! My income doesnt magically go up every week, I have to live within a budget and so do you. The world doesnt owe you anything because your on disibility or your retired! You do not deserve a discount, if you desered one it would be for a different reason, I to am on a fixed income... I earn X dollars per week, you earn X dollars per week, how does being on assistance entitle you to a discount. My brother was on invalids assistance for 4 years and he never asked for a freaking discount!
Dont ask for a discount because your on a 'fixed income' thats like asking for a discount because you breath air or you have eyes in your head. "but im a redhead dont I get a discount?" NO YOU DONT!!!!Tags: None
