    What hospital bills?

    Rapscallion
    The ones implied here:

I don't actually remember what happened after that; all I know was I woke up in an ambulance about half an hour later. I was told that I had been knocked out and kicked onto the pavement. I had a broken nose and dislocated wrist. Needless to say, after I left the hospital, I promptly quit my job.

Eric, Rapscallion's point is that people in Britain do not pay hospital bills. National health insurance. Do NOT get me started on the need for this in the US.

Hopo, welcome to CS! Delighted to see another former bus driver! I drove a city bus for 18 years in what I refer to as "my previous life." I never was hit in the balls because (1) none of my passengers ever got that violent and (2) I don't have balls. But thanks for sharing your story.

holy hell, some joker punching u in the nuts. bout 10 years ago when working a door in manchester a joker thought it would be funny to knee me in the nads as he went past. I managed to bust his nose in my reaction to the assault before the pain kicked in and the lad i was on with took him to the floor.

Not pleasant at all, the pain lingered for a good while.

But what you went through, gods i dont know what to say, its just beyond comprehension why anyone would think that would be acceptable
We are the willing, led by the unknowing, doing the impossible, for the ungrateful, we have now done so much, for so long - for so many, with so little, we can now do anything with nothing!!!

Isn't assaulting public transportation employees a federal crime or something?
It would be if bus drivers were federally employed.

If they are state or city employed, then it is a state crime. Most states, it is 5 years in prison to assault a state employee.

However, if it is subcontracted, he might not be considered a state employee.

All of which is an open question, since the crime happened in Britain.

Very possible...But he may also just be a skinflint.

While I imagine that it's too late to get it retroactively, is there an equivalent in the UK to "Workman's Compensation" to at least pay for your hospital bills and work time lost?
The UK has universal health care. No hospital bills IF you stay in the NHS (private care is available, but you have to have private pay or private insurance for that).

Work time is another matter. Of course, he quit, so it really doesn't matter. You can't collect Workman's Comp in the US if you quit.
They say that God only gives us what we can handle. Apparently, God thinks I'm a bad ass.

I probably won't have the correct terminology as I'm not in law enforcement, legal studies, nor am I an offender, but it's a type of crime that the UK police will get very stern and frowny about.
