*Just for the record, this is NOT about religion/my particular denomination's beliefs.....posting it here because (in my opinion) this is the church's equivalent of an SC*

As I've mentioned before on here, the church which I attend/used to work for has a "Meeting Hall" which is used for various activities, and it's occasionally rented out to different groups, although a fee is charged. (not sure of the details since I'm not on the committee involved with that)

Anyhow, without getting into the religious-based details, "Mark" (a congregation member) had recently decided that he wanted to start up his own church, and wanted to use our church's "Meeting Hall" building for that purpose. However, he apparently did NOT want to pay for usage, and my understanding is that the way he wanted to do things, it would mean that our church wouldn't have that building available for anything.

Needless to say, that didn't go over very well, and I kind of had the impression that "Mark" pitched a big fit about not getting what he wanted, and he, his wife, and their friends have all dropped their membership.

Sooo...he was trying to do the equivalent of going to a Sam's Club where he was a member and trying to set up shop selling products similar to theirs...for free...in such a way that nobody else would be able to shop at that Sam's.

Wow. None too bright on his part >_<

      Wait... what?

He wanted to STEAL a building away from the rightful owners so he could use it for his own personal use? And complained when he found out he couldn't do it?

I'm thinking "good riddance". And that if that's how he's going to run his own group he's off to a dazzling start...

To be quite honest, I'm not sure exactly what happened - my mom had shared this info with me, and whomever she'd heard it from hadn't gotten into great detail. I'm just rather surprised because this sort of thing is NOT what I would have ever expected from "Mark". (I should probably mention that he and his wife had been church members for two or three years)

Either way you slice it, his intent was to cause a church split. *shakes head*

Okay, that's just weird. "I want to start a competing church and I want to use your hall to do it in and I don't want to pay you the usual rental fees for it."

I wonder if that works for apartments too. Yes I'd like to rent this apartment, but not pay anything and no one else can visit or use it or whatever.

Sounds like your church has made a major improvement to itself. And it also sounds like his friends were not real believing members of the church either.
