    I've been a fan of this site for years, but only just registered. I recently went back to work, after taking a year off due to losing two of my five children in a fire. I'm an Accounting, Customer Service, Front Desk guru. I think I may actually even be able to get business cards for my company that say so. *grin*

    Story in the first:

    ME: Good evening! Thank you for calling *my motel*, my name is booMooDar, how may I help you?
    SC: Yes, well. I'm not sure you can. If I have a problem with the *BigChainMotel* I'm staying at, how do I make a complaint?
    Me:Well, I imagine you could call the corporate office, and make your complaint known there.
    SCo you have that number?
    Me:No, I don't. We used to be a *BigChainMotel*, but haven't been for many, many years. As I said, we're *my motel*.
    SC:So, what are you then?
    Me:As I said, we're *my motel*, and haven't been *BigChainMotel* for years. We're an independently owned and operated motel.
    SC:So, you can't give me *BigChainMotel*'S corporate number?
    Me:No, I'm sorry, I can't. It's probably available in the phone book, though.
    SC:But you can't give it to me?
    Me:No Ma'am.
    SC:Why not?
    Me:Because, as I said Ma'am, we have not been affiliated with *BigChainMotel* in many, many years.
    SC:Some help you are.
    Me:I know, and I do apologize Ma'am, that's just the facts of the matter. I'm sorry I couldn't help you.
    Sc:Yeah, whatever. Stupid ass shit.


    Ummmmmm, hello? Have you never heard of google? Seriously?

    Crazy Chick is Nasty, and Crazy!

    And next we have my FAVORITE guest. Our property does long-term weekly rentals. This woman has been here for over a year. When I first started, I was warned about her. She a smelly, nasty, mentally unbalances, manipulative, hoarder.

    Let's call her..... JoAnne.

    For some reason she has decided that I am her "ally". I don't know why, other than I'm the new girl, and tend to be overly nice to guests. Everyone else gave me ample warning about her.... I should have told her to f**k off the first time I had to deal with her. She really is a nasty woman. The first thing out of her mouth, every time she wanders into my lobby and sees me is, "I know you're not supposed to talk to me, but..."

    Tonight, I tried telling her, "JoAnne, I don't need the back story, just tell me what I can help you with tonight."

    "Oh, No. You have to hear it to understand."

    Cue, *Le sigh.

    I finally get all through her sob story and conspiracy theory, and try to go about my work. LESS THAN A MINUTE AND A HALF from when she left my lobby, she's calling me from her room phone. She wishes she had a way to communicate with me when I'm not on shift. I'm the only that understands what's going on. She doesn't want to get me in trouble, but she knows I have a computer at home, so can I go find some random Mexican coupon for prescription drugs, and she'll bring me a free soda. I'm the only one that understands what she's going though, etc. Blah. Blah. Blah."

    I was trying to count out my drawer through the whole phone conversation. We have a fairly old switchboard, and I'm supposed to transfer to the mobile and finish the call on that whenever I take more than a minute on a call. She Would.Not.Let.Me.

    I was supposed to work swing today, but ended up working from 1:15pm top 12:00m because our Front Desk Manager had a family emergency. GAH! GAH! GAH! GAH!

    This woman is a hoarder, and we keep trying to get approval from the Health Department to kick her out. We actually got permission the other day for our Hotel Manager and FD Manager to go clear all the trash out of her room. How long do you think I had to listen to how unfair that was tonight?

    I'm confused as to why your hotel would need anybody's permission to kick someone out. Sure, you do long-term room rentals, but as long as the reason isn't a protected status and you're not bound by a contract, you should be free and clear to refuse service to anyone, especially if they're known to be problem customers.

    Also, I'm really sorry to hear about your kids. That must have been a terrible time for you.

      Thank you, and sorry for the typos! I worked swing last night, but had to go in early and didn't get my nap. When I got home I decided to self medicate with my favorite alcoholic beverages before bed, and didn't catch all the nonsense until I just re-read this. Yeah, it sucked. Sucked hard. I will never be the same person I was before that happened. Ever. I'm still me, just a little different me. Sweet Om, I miss them.

        Sincere condolences for your family. I am happy to see that you a) are ready to be back to work and b) found a job!

        Keep us posted on JoAnne. That's the name of my ex mother in law. I maintain an intense level of loathing for her. It helps fill out the story for me.

          Thanks you guys. I have to admit, I stayed quite thoroughly and unflinchingly drunk for several months.

          As for the rest? I love hospitality, love it. Why do we need the health dept.? Technically, we don't really. It's just that this woman seriously does not understand that she has a problem. She blames everyone else for all the horrible things in her life. For some reason, she's latched on to me as the only "good" person she's met in about 30 years. *groan*

          I don't understand why, either. I'm a naturally cheerful person, especially at work, so I tend to be pleasant and listen when a guest needs to rant about something. That's all this woman does, though. She seems to think our management and all my co-workers are evil incarnate. They're not. Management has kinda a bad rep to some people, but in my experience they are very caring, humane people. Just wait 'til I get to the trailer park stories... *evil grin*

          Management owns *Mymotel*, small disheveled motel next door, the trailer park I live in, and several rental properties about town. Our front desk acts as the front line for all of this. *giggle,snicker,chortle,snort*

          If you think hotel SC's are bad, you've never dealt with the denizens of a trailer park.

                As for the person calling for OldMotel, just say "OK, try calling OldMotel, then. They should have the number available for ya. Have a nice day!" ... What're they gonna do , report you to OldMotel Corporate?

                    Welcome, and condolences to you and your family. I'm also sorry that you have to deal with "JoAnne". Hopefully, your bosses find a way to kick her out soon and she'll be someone elses problem! Keep us updated!

                      Yikes! I can't imagine that kind of loss. You have my deepest sympathies. And yet you still claim to be a naturally cheerful person, I also can't imagine the inner strength that must take to maintain.

                            So management is basically ensuring she has a roof over her head until someone from the health department steps up and takes control of the problem?

                            That's very kind of them.

                              And yes, that is ever so kind of management to allow her to continue to reside in your rooms despite the mess she is making ... why don't they go whole hog and provide her with a free cleaning service too ... oh wait, she probably wouldn't let them in ...
