In a previous existance I was a patent examiner. For each patent application assigned to me, I had to research the subject matter and write a detailed report on it. One time a new hire came in, straight from college I think, and wanted to know where his assistants were to help him with the job. He didn't last long.

Sweet jumping jebus, research in the library was always my favorite part of going to school ...
It was amazing some of the side trips engendered by random references in books, sort of like the game where you try to see how many jumps it takes to get from one subject to another in wiki...

I enjoyed doing research too. It brought some welcome excitement to those two days before the deadline to turn the paper in (hey! I write better under pressure. Sue me 8p )
Tho it does scare me that some people WILL complain about not having enough time/info on a paer that was assigned in Week One and due in Week Eleven...For me, the hard part is narrowing down WHAT I wanna research/write about. Once I have that, I can bust out a C-Plus (grade, not code) paper in one evening, or a High B with some revision.
It probably helped that I was an English major. If you were in any English class beyond the "easy" sophomore stuff, telling the teacher that you don't know how to do research would get you a funny look at best, probably a hearty laugh the second you left the room, and maybe even a well-deserved "How the h*** did you get this far if you can't research a term paper?" inquiry..."For a musician, the SNES sound engine is like using Crayola Crayons.
