  • Procrastination is not my fault.

I once was an at home agent for Valentines day for a flower company.
    Worst thing I ever did.

As most normal humans understand that the closer you get to the date the more expensive it can be to ship. And with flowers, something that cost $19.99 two weeks ago can be $29.99 a week later, on top of the shipping going thru the roof. End BG.

I once got a guy, who I could tell, left off thinking about V-day until 5 days before. Calls up to order one of the specials. Even the cheap flowers have the same guarantee as the super expensive ones, so still a good value, IMO.

So I ask what day he wants them delivered and he scoffs and says V-day. I tell him that V-day delivery is $19.99. The guy flips out. Starts telling me how that is a scam and there is no way that it can cost that much and he can go to the drugstore and get something better for less at the drug store. And in light of that if I wanted to close the sale, I had better reduce the shipping.

I did an eyeroll, because I have had both and in my experience, the drug store ones weren't better and died very quickly.

So I explain to the jerk that V-day is a Sunday, and the flowers are shipped overnight to ensure that they are fresh and alive. So we had to make a deal with a major shipper to ensure we could make the deliveries. Shipping is only reduced in the event that they aren't delivered on time or new flowers for free, but not both.

Then he said F--k that and hung up.

So I am thinking what where you expecting? The 2 dozen of the best quality long stem roses for $20, hand delivered by Cupid himself in a beautiful crystal vase? I get that you don't want to buy drug store flowers, or you wouldn't have called, but if you wanted the best deal, you should have called 2-3 weeks ago.

It was only two weeks I was needed to work that skill, they offered me Mothers Day, but......if people were freaking out over V-day...I shudder to think of the reactions on Mothers day.

My guess would be he was cross at himself for leaving it late and unfortunately you got the brunt of the anger... I ordered Mother's Day flowers from a service similar to yours about 3 weeks in advance, my housemate left it until two days before when I happened to mention it, he couldn't believe the price changes since I'd ordered... On Mothers Day and Valentines, if I want to give flowers to my mom, I will by an arrangement somewhere and hand deliver em (Mainly because the delivery prices here are high no matter how far in advance you order, here it isn't when you order, it's when you want em delivered).

But I have never taken out my anger on the flower person, I understand that if you want stuff done on certain days, you gotta pay extra for it.

When I worked at *big box retail*, customers would be buying V-day stuffed animals and chocolates all the way until my shift ended at 11pm on the holiday itself. Talk about last minute.

On a related note, that sounds like getting hotels here for Mardi Gras, or a reservation at Galatoire's on Mother's Day...For the former, reserving a room 10 months ahead of time is probably about as long as you should wait. For the latter? Last I heard, the waiting list was nearly two YEARS long.

Well the SC in the OP obviously isn't getting any.

LOL. Reminds me of one morning ('twas a Sunday), when I rolled over, gave Hubby a big kiss, and said "Happy Valentine's Day!" He got very wide-eyed. He ducked out of the room on his phone...somehow he found a florist that was able to get flowers delivered at the last minute!

Of course, your SC wasn't Hubs. He's a bit flaky, but he doesn't turn SC when it's his own fault.
