  • Volunteering SC (I guess)

I just remembered something that could be considered an SC incident. When I was in High School, I did a lot of volunteering at my church. One of the things I did was Usher. Not much backround needed, but a lot of time was spent just standing up. Now I'm a big guy so I tend to lean back and don't always stand up straight.

Well after one mass, this older lady comes up to me and starts critiquing my job. How I should be standing up straight, and other "helpful" advice on how to be a better usher. Now she wasn't nasty about it, quite the opposite actually. But... seriously? Why would she care so much?

I can't say I was too angry or alienated by this, but I thought it was very very odd.

Old people have this thing about seeing people "slouch." It drives them crazy.

And dawdling, never dawdle around an old person.

Which is kind of hard when you don't know what dawdling is?

Dawdling is when you don't get off their lawn fast enough.

It's what the old person in front of you is doing when you're in a hurry.
