O gosh, I hope it wasnn't my burger monarchy, lol. We've had some problems with our other managers pulling people and, then the customer waits for ver and the orders wrong. Our infamous book gets quite cluttered at times. I'm sorry your day ended with bad service.

At least you GET Muzak...we get nothing!Quoth Irving Patrick Freleigh View PostFinal day of Super Duper Uber Mega Super Stupendous Lowest Prices of the Season, and I was assigned to work the salesfloor.
This does wonders for my energy level in the morning
Hearing the song "The Pretender" by Jackson Browne over the PA as I'm coming down to the floor to start work.
Or "Running on Empty," also by Jackson Browne.
Muzak really knows how to get me going in the morning.

You and me both, Irv.Quoth Irving Patrick Freleigh View PostAnd like all our other coupons, this one comes with an exceptions list as long as the list of side effects on a pill bottle. (This product may cause discoloration of the urine or feces. This product may cause dizziness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery while taking this product. This product may kill you outright. Do not taunt this product.) So why are we even bothering offering coupons in the first place when half the store doesn't qualify?
I would shed no tears if coupons just ceased to exist entirely.
Yes, that 50% off one non-sale item is a great deal. No, you can't buy that $400 serger with it, see the fine print? Why? Because the company doesn't want to lose $200 on one sale, dumbass, why do you think?!
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

Truthfully, I'd prefer "nothing." Although I'll admit, after awhile I was able to just tune that shit out.Quoth pharmgirl View PostAt least you GET Muzak...we get nothing!Sometimes life is altered.

Anything is better than nothing.
We had our music taken away a few years ago.
Working in dead silence, save for if you're lucky enough to have chatty coworkers (unfortunate if you have annoying speed talking fanboys of all cartoons and movies like I do) really, really sucks. You really need to see a neurologist. - Wagegoth

I WANT nothing.Quoth pharmgirl View PostAt least you GET Muzak...we get nothing!
Our muzak, it's horrible. Think of the worst country/soft rock/easy listening/"at work network" radio station in town. Now think of something worse than that. That's what I have to listen to at work day after after day.
Of course, this is because it's geared toward our target shoppers--soccer moms with more money than brains whose musical tastes get no edgier than Natasha Beddingfield or Maroon 5. There's next to nothing played that I like. Just more Colbie Caillat than should be allowed under the Geneva Conventions. >< If there's ever a notable artist who had a bad song, they find that bad song. And play it until my ears bleed.
Oh, and then there's this guy Brett Dennen? He sings like a muppet being castrated with a rusty Sawzall. I guess he's supposed to be one of those "boring music sung by guys with sexy voices" "artists." There's about 8 songs of his in regular rotation in our Muzak. Whoever programs our muzak just has a boner for the guy. Several times a day I have to hear his infernal caterwauling and think of all the bad things I'd like to do to the people who told him he was good at singing. ><
And then at Christmastime it's probably going to be the same shit we had last year--the most sleep-inducing, moldy-oldie Christmas songs imaginable. At least in years past there were some more modern songs that I actually didn't mind hearing.Last edited by Irving Patrick Freleigh; 10-17-2011, 10:28 AM.Knowledge is power. Power corrupts. Fortunately, I get to provide my own work soundtrack. The only rule is that it not be disruptive to anyone else.
My most memorable muzak moment, however, was when I was shopping back in the late 80's/early 90's and some muzak tune based on the five-note theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind started playing. I stopped, listened, then looked up and said out loud, even though I was alone, "Really?"

Until he retired 'The Moose' in Parry Sound had some old guy (you tell by his voice that he was real old-timer) who had the widest range of music you ever heard.
Imagine a Will Smith Rap( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jW3PFC86UNI&ob=av3e ) followed by
The Andrews Sisters ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3ntMHk_QiM ) and that in turn followed by
Throat-singing ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY1pcEtHI_w and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnGM0BlA95I ) and just to make matters strange
The only known recording of the last Castrato who lived. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castrato his music is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv-S3uoeTXg
You never knew what you would hear next.

I don't think I'd like to hear ANY kind of music at work, but it is kinda sad that I can't listen to music at all while I'm on the clock (except on breaks but I hate to break out the iPod just for 15 minutes). Music really helps my mood, and it would be great to be able to listen at work. I understand why it doesnt really work in a call center, but...
