Someone explained fixed income to me. They get a check for a predetermined amount from the government right? Sounds like my job. I know how much I make, and I get 40 hours a week. No Overtime. So unless I get a raise or the taxes change I get the same check every week. So aren't I on a "fixed income"

Come on, just because I have the ability to make more through raises, etc. doesn't make a difference. You should have planned better for retirement. I have two retirement accounts and I'm 22 years old!

Augh, I know every call I get that starts with "Well, I'm on fixed income" is going to be hell. It's either "Can you change my due date?" (no. no. no.) or "What kind of discounts do you have for senior citizens?"

I understand fixed income sucks, I understand it's horrible for the elderly right now, but by golly we are not welfare, our corporation does not care if you are low income, fixed income, or no income, they want their money, and you need to appeal to the organizations that supply welfare for the under-privilaged.

I know I sound like a cold-hearted bastard, but jeepers people! The last person to appeal to is a multi-million dollar corporation!

You are my personal hero. That story was b-e-a-utiful. I can't think of anything that could possibly be more satisfying.

I can't stand people like that, and any time someone does complain about their income, they're usually full of crap. I get people all the time who want the most expensive device we sell for free on the basis that they're on fixed income. Or can't pay their bill because they're on disability/social (in)security/only get paid once a month. People that really are on budgetary limitations wouldn't be having these conversations with us in the first place, because they know what they can afford and how to stay in their boundaries.

Or if you don't mind being a bad sport, near when it's obvious she's about to leave (and you can explain to everyone else after she storms out), after a big winning hand, say "Ah, this will help me supplement my Fiiiiiixed Innnnncome!"

If she plays poker like she tries to bargain, she should stay at home. She couldn't bluff her way out of a paper bag!

That's the funny thing, she couldn't. Why do you think it took me only an hour and a half to win 200 bucks playing 3/6?

I'm still laughing about it. She couldn't bluff for anything. Maybe she was pissed that I was singling her out (I was, too, I'm ruthless when I play cards) but her tells were so obvious. She lost almost ALL of her stack of chips, not just to me but other players on the table as well. But of course, she blamed me.

Nothing like having 4 of a kind, and then watching as everyone else folds because you can't contain your excitement. Or in her case, she would look at me and get a little grin. Every time I saw that, I threw away the cards. So did everyone else.

She won $24 on a 4 of a kind. Ouch.

Slow played her on the final hand of the night. Beat her three of a kind with a full house. She as NOT happy, but then again, my face doesn't change when I play poker unless I'm feeling particularly playful and having a good time.

Honestly, she's lucky she didn't have a heart attack right there in the parking lot. Heaven help her if she needs to dive into her Blackjack fund to pay for the operation!

As it has been said here before, we are ALL on fixed incomes. My paycheques don't magically go up every week.
And because I am on a fixed income, I refrain from:
a) Purchasing large items like furniture when I can't afford the standard and reasonable delivery fee, and
b) GAMBLING.
But then, I take responsibility for my finances and don't expect everyone else to cut me a break by whining about it.
