Why do they insist on tossing stuff at me?

I was ringing up this nice older lady last night, and she was by herself to my knowlege. In the middle this man came up and put his stuff on the belt. I wasn't sure, but after maybe 5 seconds I realized they were together. Still, he handed me one of "his" items after I scanned the first batch, probably indicating non-verbally "these are all together." And that was just fine. But then he slowly and deliberately picked up every single item, one at a time, and tossed them at me. At that point I decided it was too bad this nice lady was with this condescending dude with a superiority complex. I wonder if he does stuff like that to her?

I wouldn't doubt it. If he didn't treat her that way, she'd probably tear him a new one for acting like that in public. Asshat.
