    ...and they take a mile.

We have Grumpy Old Lady at the motel, or GOL. She's stayed with us in the past. Her mobility is limited, and in the past if we had people available who had the time, we would make food runs for her. IF we had the people and IF we had the time.

Late last night, GOL calls down.

GOL: "Yeah, can you send someone to bring me some food from McDonald's? I want blah blah blah."
Me: "Unfortunately, there's no one here who can do that for you."
GOL: "Well, you'd better find someone. I need to eat some food and I want blah blah blah."
Me: "There's no one here, ma'am. All the employees have gone home. I'm the only one here, and I can't leave the motel."
GOL: "Well then find someone! Are you checking someone in?"
    Me: "Not at the moment."
GOL: "Well when you check someone in, you can ask them. I want blah blah blah."
Me: "Ma'am, I'm not going to ask a random guest to bring you food."
    GOL: "Yes you will!"
Me: "No ma'am, I won't. That would be highly inappropriate."
GOL: "Well you just need to find yourself a new job, then, since you can't do this one!" *click*
    Me:

Whatever, b**ch. Obtaining food for you is NOT my job!

I have little sympathy for her because there are likely other places that could deliver food to the hotel, unless the hotel doesn't allow it. If she's GOTTA have her McDump's, and she didn't plan ahead to get it or check in advance to see if someone at the hotel could help, she's out of luck.

I would've straight up told her to stop being lazy and get it herself.

If she has a genuine mobility issue, telling her to stop being lazy would ... not be good. In general it's just ableist, and in her case it could give her ammunition if she wanted to make a stink to someone higher up.

...or the job of the other customers. And I have to say, that's a new one. Just when I thought I'd heard it all.

I think it's time for a new and uniform policy to NOT be the gophers of guests. Unless your hotel has consierge service and the employees are tipped/paid accordingly, then give your apologies and continue tell GOL no. Keep in mind there's also a liability issue to consider. I doubt the hotel or GOL will pay out if an employee gets in an accident while running one of her errands. Be safe, don't do it.

Ditto! Is management not willing to step in here, at least to lay down the law to her about staff being able to do this ONLY if they are not otherwise busy? Actually I'm surprised they'd allow this at all, especially since this is what it leads to -- an SC has now decided you are not doing her a favour but rather that this is part of your job, no matter what else is going on. Sorry about her mobility issues but they are not -- nor should they be -- the staff's problem.

It isn't another patron's repsonsibility to bring her food. And ordering you like that. How contemptable.
Customers should always be served . . . to the nearest great white.

That shouldn't be hard to find. At the place we stayed last weekend, there were (by my count) 8 places, and not all pizza, that deliver to that motel...no, McD's wasn't one of them.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

We actually have a contract with a company called Order Inn, which puts menus in the rooms and in turn subcontracts to a local restaurant that can deliver, salad, sandiwches...even steak and salmon dinners (though trust me, those last two don't stand up to the delivery well).

GOL used to be Sweet Old Lady, which is why we helped her in the past. We think she may have suffered a stroke or something, though, because she's turned in to big-time Grumpy, and has said other things that you'd never hear coming out of her mouth before in the past.

There's a similar service here called TakeOut Taxi that will pick up food from pretty much any restaurant that will allow it, and deliver it to the home customer. Ain't cheap, tho ^_^

I second the motion. It's awesome you guys were going out of your way for her, but now she's pretty much ruined it for herself and anyone else.
