I can't find the clip, but Mystery Science Theatre 3000 had Tom Servo changing the spelling to hTom Cerveaux.

Me neither. I'll usually just sigh inwardly and react, no matter how they get my name twisted, because I'm so used to it. If it's the first time I meet the person mispronouncing it, I'll most often tell them very nicely how to spell/say it, but otherwise I won't bother.Quoth mhkohne View PostI get my name mangled all the time, but I sure don't get mad about it!

I have a customer with the surname of "hale" with the long a.
It's spelled H-O-E-H-L.

My sister once asked a phone customer how to spell her last name, which the woman pronounced "Hayl" (long 'a') The customer gave a huge disgusted sigh and spelled it out: "H-A-L-L." WTF?

My first name has 3 letters, but people still don't get it
They'll mix up the last two letters, even if my name is written right in front of them, because that variation is apparently more common in their minds - or they'll assume that it's short for something else and just use whatever they think it's short for. Someone even called me a male name (I'm female), that's not even close to similar in spelling or pronounciation. And I've even been told that I'm obviously too stupid to spell my own name, it's supposed to be [version with the two last letters interchanged]
.. guess I can't win that one ..

people always stumble over my name. i usually tell them how to pronounce it when they hit that dead space where they're trying to figure it out.
but i'm use to it and don't flip out if it's wrong.

My husband and I loved that commercial...we often liked to refer to certain people as "doo-MAHS" after thatQuoth EricKei View PostOr, perhaps, Dumass...?
~ "The name is DuMAHS" ~
Yeah, come to think of it, that "woman" did kind of act like Hyacinth "Bouquet"...except that Hyacinth is so easy to laugh at, and I got the feeling that laughing at my customer would have been a VERY bad idea

I'll admit it; my last name is difficult to pronounce. The only people who ever get it right the first time are lawyers or historians (there's a famous politician who shares my last name). When people stumble over it, I just laugh it off and correct them. If asked for my last name, I automatically spell it.
My ex-husband's last name, OTOH, was easy. Two syllables, short and sweet and obvious from the spelling. And people still kept getting it wrong

I don't think anyone's mentioned Pratchett's Mr Tee-ah-tim-eh (spelled Teatime), or Mrs Arwidge (spelled Earwig) yet in this thread.
Oh, and there's a doctor in the next town over whose last name is The. I boggled the first time I saw that. I think he pronounces it Teh, like the French word for tea.

From 'Torchwood'.
"Splot?"
"I understand that real estate agents pronounce it Sploe."

My last name is pronounced the way it looks. Four letter name. Yet I've had people say it wrong. The best was when a telemarkter called and asked me "Is this the *spells out my last name instead of trying to pronounce it* residence?" Hahahaha! My name is NOT that hard to say!
