Okay, this was rich, the hypocrisy was amazing.

HU:What is the customer's 9 digit phone number?
Me: One moment while I relay your question to the caller (I of course relay it correctly as 10 digit, because, well... yeah)
HU: Oh yeah, I shouldn't expect a relay operator to actually be smart enough to know that up front.

This coming from the person who doesn't know how many digits are in a phone number.

Wow, that IS rich... I mean, I occasionally forget to give an area code when relaying a number, but to forget that and then accuse YOU of stupidity? At least the blatant hypocrisy was amusing, heh.

That is only 8 digits sweetie
(since the 1 is universal it isn't included as part of the phone number )

It's also funny because you're NOT PART OF THE CONVERSATION. You are simply relaying his questions to the customer. If I'm understanding your job correctly, you can't just spout off answers for the customer.

Actually, I can give answers for the customer... but only if they have requested it (we do have users who will put instructions asking us to give their information for them... normally they'll type it out while we're on hold so they don't have to wait as long when someone does pick up)

Simple fix for that. 1-800-555-FU2 (for the mystical 9 digits that is)

                Alternative method

Hey, as a relay operator, you're required to pass along anything and everything that's said, right? That would have been interesting for the asshat to explain to their remote customer..
